Structures of the Mononegavirales Polymerases

open access: hybridJournal of Virology, 2020
Mononegavirales , known as nonsegmented negative-sense (NNS) RNA viruses, are a class of pathogenic and sometimes deadly viruses that include rabies virus (RABV), human respiratory syncytial virus (HRSV), and Ebola virus (EBOV).

2022 taxonomic update of phylum Negarnaviricota (Riboviria: Orthornavirae), including the large orders Bunyavirales and Mononegavirales [PDF]

open access: bronzeArchives of Virology, 2022
In March 2022, following the annual International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV) ratification vote on newly proposed taxa, the phylum Negarnaviricota was amended and emended. The phylum was expanded by two new families (bunyaviral Discoviridae and Tulasviridae), 41 new genera, and 98 new species.

Reverse Genetics of Mononegavirales: The Rabies Virus Paradigm [PDF]

open access: gold, 2013
The neurotropic rabies virus (RABV) is a prototype member of the Mononegavirales order of viruses and is the most significant human pathogen of the Rhabdoviridae family. A reverse genetics system for RABV was established almost 20 years ago, providing a paradigm for other Mononegavirales members as well.

Nyamiviridae: Proposal for a new family in the order Mononegavirales [PDF]

open access: bronzeArchives of Virology, 2013
Nyamanini virus (NYMV) and Midway virus (MIDWV) are unclassified tick-borne agents that infect land birds and seabirds, respectively. The recent molecular characterization of both viruses confirmed their already known close serological relationship and revealed them to be nonsegmented, single- and negative-stranded RNA viruses that are clearly related ...

Taxonomy of the order Mononegavirales: update 2018 [PDF]

open access: bronzeArchives of Virology, 2018
In 2018, the order Mononegavirales was expanded by inclusion of 1 new genus and 12 novel species. This article presents the updated taxonomy of the order Mononegavirales as now accepted by the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV) and summarizes additional taxonomic proposals that may affect the order in the near future.

Addicted to sugar: roles of glycans in the orderMononegavirales [PDF]

open access: bronzeGlycobiology, 2018
Glycosylation is a biologically important protein modification process by which a carbohydrate chain is enzymatically added to a protein at a specific amino acid residue. This process plays roles in many cellular functions, including intracellular trafficking, cell-cell signaling, protein folding and receptor binding.

Consequences of Phosphorylation in a Mononegavirales Polymerase-Cofactor System

open access: greenJournal of Virology, 2021
Polymerase-cofactor interactions such as those addressed in this study are absolute requirements for mononegavirus RNA synthesis. Although cofactor phosphorylation is present in most of these interactions, its effect, if any, on this protein-protein interaction had not been addressed.
