A cytological study on the structure of the pituitary gland of Monopterus albus (Zuiew)

General and Comparative Endocrinology, 1974
The pituitary gland of the ricefield eel, Monopterus albus is made up of the neurohypophysis, which form the central core, and the adenohypophysis, which completely surrounds the former except at the infundibular connection. Pituitaries, in longitudinal and transverse serial sections, lave been studied by standard histological and histochemical ...

Autonomic control of the heart in the Asian swamp eel (Monopterus albus)

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part A: Molecular & Integrative Physiology, 2011
The Asian swamp eel (Monopterus albus) is an air-breathing teleost with very reduced gills that uses the buccal cavity for air-breathing. Here we characterise the cardiovascular changes associated with the intermittent breathing pattern in M. albus and we study the autonomic control of the heart during water- and air-breathing. The shift from water- to

Purification and partial characterization of glutathione transferase from the teleost Monopterus albus

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part C: Toxicology & Pharmacology, 2008
Glutathione transferases (GSTs) catalyze the transfer of glutathione to a variety of xenobiotic and toxic endogenous compounds. GSTs are phase II biotransformation enzymes and are proposed as biomarkers of environmental pollution. In this study, a cytosolic glutathione transferase (maGST) was purified from liver of the freshwater fish Monopterus albus ...

Effects of malathion on steroidogenesis and sex reversal in Monopterus albus

Marine Environmental Research, 1993
Abstract Monopterus albus in their female phase were exposed to Malathion at a concentration of either 9 ppm for four weeks to study the acute effects on steroidogenesis or 3 ppm for seven months to study the chronic effects on the process of sex reversal.

The genome-wide landscape of small insertion and deletion mutations in Monopterus albus

Journal of Genetics and Genomics, 2019
Insertion and deletion (indel) mutations, which can trigger single nucleotide substitutions on the flanking regions of genes, may generate abundant materials for disease defense, reproduction, species survival and evolution. However, genetic and evolutionary mechanisms of indels remain elusive.

Mitochondrial DNA Diversity of Monopterus albus from the Sichuan Basin of China

Biochemical Genetics, 2008
Genetic diversity of Monopterus albus in a wild population in the Sichuan Basin was investigated by employing mtDNA polymorphisms. The mitochondrial control region was sequenced for a total of 59 individuals collected from four localities. These sequences (553 bp) belonged to 13 haplotypes defined by eight polymorphic sites.

Diversification of Toll-like receptor 1 in swamp eel (Monopterus albus)

Developmental & Comparative Immunology
Toll-like receptor 1 (TLR1) is a pattern recognition receptor that plays critical roles in triggering immune activation via detecting bacterial lipoproteins and lipopeptides. In this study, the genetic characteristic of TLR1 was studied for an important aquaculture fish, swamp eel Monopterus albus.

[Detection and identification for Gnathostoma sp. in imported Monopterus albus].

Zhongguo ji sheng chong xue yu ji sheng chong bing za zhi = Chinese journal of parasitology & parasitic diseases, 2014
To inspect the third stage larvae of Gnathostoma in imported Monopterus albus, and identify its species.Ten batches of M. albus imported to Shanghai were detected for nematode Gnathostoma from January 2010 to March 2011. Fifty-two M. albus imported from the Philippines (25), Indonesia (24) and Bangladesh (3) were sampled (3-10/batch), which were ...
