Model for Origin of Monosaccharides

Nature, 1967
Formaldehyde, alumina and two naturally occurring aluminosilicates, kaolinite and illite, were refluxed with an aqueous solution of formaldehyde. Formaldehyde was converted to monosaccharides. This provides the basis for a model for the primordial origin of monosaccharides.

Monosaccharide Analogues of Anticancer Peptide R-lycosin-I: Role of Monosaccharide Conjugation in Complexation and Potential of Lung Cancer Targeting and Therapy.

Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, 2019
Glycoconjugation is a promising modification strategy for the optimization of peptide drugs. In this study, five different monosaccharides derivatives (7a-e) were covalently linked to N-terminal of R-lycosin-I, which yielded five glycopeptides (8a-e ...

TEMPORARY MONOSACCHARIDE INTOLERANCE

Acta Paediatrica, 1968
SummaryAn infant presented at three months with intolerance of glucose, galactose and fructose. It was thought that this was possibly secondary to staphylococcal infection. Recovery of monosaccharide intolerance coincided with recovery from infection. The infant was treated with a sugar‐free diet which is described in detail.

Targeted cancer imaging and photothermal therapy via monosaccharide-imprinted gold nanorods.

Chemical Communications, 2017
Plasmonic nanomaterials have been widely used for photothermal therapy (PTT) of cancer, but their recognition specificity remains challenging. We prepared monosaccharide-imprinted gold nanorods (AuNRs) for targeted cancer PTT, using sialic acid (SA) as a

A periodic table of monosaccharides

Glycobiology, 2023
Abstract It is important to recognize the great diversity of monosaccharides commonly encountered in animals, plants, and microbes, as well as to organize them in a visually interesting style that also emphasizes their similarities and relatedness.

Pattern Recognition of Cells via Multiplexed Imaging with Monosaccharide-Imprinted Quantum Dots.

Analytical Chemistry, 2017
Recognition of cancer cells is essential for many important areas such as targeted cancer therapy. Multimonosaccharide-based recognition could be a useful strategy to improve the recognition specificity, but such a possibility has not been explored yet ...

Totalsynthesen höherer Monosaccharide [PDF]

open access: possibleAngewandte Chemie, 1987

Monosaccharides in Health and Disease

Annual Review of Nutrition, 1986
In healthy persons, glucose homeostasis maintains blood glucose levels between 70 and 130 mg/dl despite perturbations by meals, fasting, and exercise. Long-term follow-up of diabetic patients has suggested that "good control" of blood sugar levels minimizes the long-term complications of diabetes, such as retinopathy, nephropathy, and atherosclerosis ...

Acquired Monosaccharide Intolerance in Infants

Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition, 1989
To determine the frequency with which acquired monosaccharide intolerance (AMI) occurs in infants <3 months of age, we performed a prospective descriptive study of infants admitted to the hospital for diarrhea. We searched for differences between the characteristics and causes of AMI in these infants and those of a cohort of similar‐aged infants ...
