A Eurocode‐compliant design approach for cold‐formed steel sections

open access: yesSteel Construction, Volume 16, Issue 2, Page 78-92, May 2023., 2023
Abstract A Eurocode‐compliant design approach was developed for the design of thin‐walled cold‐formed steel sections which combines the AISI S100‐16‐Direct Strength Method (DSM) with the design provisions of EN 1993‐1‐3. The new design approach transfers the cross‐sectional resistance determined acc.

Axial Compressive Performance of Steel‐Reinforced Concrete Columns with Monosymmetric Cross‐Shaped Steel

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, Volume 2021, Issue 1, 2021., 2021
The axial compressive performance of steel‐reinforced concrete columns with monosymmetric cross‐shaped steel (SRCC‐MCS) was investigated in this study. Tests were conducted under pure axial compression to determine the effects of cross‐shaped steel eccentricity ratio, concrete strength, steel ratio, and stirrup spacing on the resulting failure mode ...

Test and Numerical Analysis on Damaged Steel Beam Strengthened with Prestressed CFRP Sheet

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, Volume 2021, Issue 1, 2021., 2021
This paper presents the experimental and numerical analysis of damaged steel beams strengthened with prestressed CFRP sheet or only strengthened with CFRP sheet. The test results showed that damaged level had a significant effect on the stiffness, yield load, and ultimate bearing capacity.

An optimisation strategy for the (in- and out-of-plane) resistance of steel beams in demountable composite floor systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Demountable and reusable composite floor systems enable the decoupling between the use of construction materials and economic activity, and hereby contribute to the sustainability of the built environment.

Analytical Solution for Lateral‐Torsional Buckling of Concrete‐Filled Tubular Flange Girders with Torsional Bracing

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, Volume 2020, Issue 1, 2020., 2020
Concrete‐filled tubular flange girders have been used in bridges, and torsional bracings are widely used in them to increase the lateral‐torsional buckling strength. This article proposes an analytical solution for the lateral‐torsional buckling (LTB) of concrete‐filled tubular flange steel girders with torsional bracing under a concentrated load.

Effects of Factors That Influence Out‐of‐Plane Lateral‐Torsional Buckling on Freestanding Circular Arches

open access: yesJournal of Engineering, Volume 2020, Issue 1, 2020., 2020
This paper presents the effects of the several factors that influence lateral‐torsional buckling on freestanding circular arches. The studied factors that attribute to the effects of lateral‐torsional buckling include cross section type, included angle, slender ratio, imperfection, loading, and boundary conditions.

The simplified method of the equivalent compression flange

open access: yesSteel Construction, Volume 12, Issue 4, Page 264-277, November 2019., 2019
Abstract Extended version of the Tomáš Vraný SDSS Award 2019 The method of the equivalent compression flange simplifies the verification of lateral torsional buckling of steel beams to flexural buckling of an equivalent part of the cross‐section that is in compression.

Dimensionless Analytical Solution and New Design Formula for Lateral‐Torsional Buckling of I‐Beams under Linear Distributed Moment via Linear Stability Theory

open access: yesMathematical Problems in Engineering, Volume 2017, Issue 1, 2017., 2017
Even for the doubly symmetric I‐beams under linear distributed moment, the design formulas given by codes of different countries are quite different. This paper will derive a dimensionless analytical solution via linear stability theory and propose a new design formula of the critical moment of the lateral‐torsional buckling (LTB) of the simply ...

Strengthening of Steel Columns under Load: Torsional‐Flexural Buckling

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, Volume 2016, Issue 1, 2016., 2016
The paper presents experimental and numerical research into the strengthening of steel columns under load using welded plates. So far, the experimental research in this field has been limited mostly to flexural buckling of columns and the preload had low effect on the column load resistance.
