Composition, Chemical Variability, and Anti‐inflammatory Activity of the Berry Essential Oil of Juniperus phoenicea L. var. Turbinata From Algeria

open access: yesChemistry &Biodiversity, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The chemical composition of 66 oil samples isolated from the berries of individual trees of Juniperus phoenicea var. turbinata, collected in six locations from Algeria, was investigated by gas chromatography with flame ionization detection, gas chromatography‐mass spectrometry, and 13C‐nuclear magnetic resonance.

Genome Mining Reveals a Novel Nephthenol‐Producing Diterpene Synthase from the Sandfly Lutzomyia Longipalpis

open access: yesChemBioChem, EarlyView.
The discovery of a terpene synthase of insect origin that makes the apparently cryptic product nephthenol from geranylgeranyl diphosphate sheds light on hidden biosynthetic potential. Populations of the sandfly, Lutzomyia longipalpis, use the diterpene sobralene as a sex/aggregation pheromone, which is likely produced in the insect through the activity

Cancer chemoprevention and therapy by monoterpenes.

open access: yesEnvironmental Health Perspectives, 1997
Monoterpenes are found in the essential oils of many plants including fruits, vegetables, and herbs. They prevent the carcinogenesis process at both the initiation and promotion/progression stages. In addition, monoterpenes are effective in treating early and advanced cancers.

Stereoselective Synthesis of Cannabidiol and its Unnatural Enantiomer to Evaluate Anxiolytic‐Like Properties and Memory Interactions

open access: yesChemBioChem, EarlyView.
Both (−)‐ and (+)‐cannabidiol (CBD and ent‐CBD, respectively) are synthesized via a highly diastereoselective CSA‐catalyzed Friedel–Crafts reaction. ent‐CBD exhibits anxiolytic‐like effects in aged male mice without impairing long‐term memory formation.

From Turpentine to (−)‐Menthol: A New Approach

open access: yesChemSusChem, EarlyView.
Renewable 3‐carene, which can be obtained from the pulp and paper industrial waste crude sulfate turpentine, is successfully transformed to the aroma compound menthol, utilizing a new, four‐step synthesis route. Heterogeneous hydrogenation, solid acid catalysis, and phase transfer catalysis are utilized under organic solvent‐free conditions, with ...
