Microstructure Reconstruction in Battery Electrodes Using Machine Learning Based on Low‐Voltage Focused Ion Beam–Scanning Electron Microscopy Tomography Images

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐voltage FIB‐SEM tomography combined with a image preprocessing pipeline improves phase contrast and enables reliable machine‐learning segmentation of conductive networks in lithium‐ion battery electrodes. Structural descriptors are extracted from segmented images, done semimanually and automated, and compared.

A Dislocation Perspective on Strength and Toughness in Ceramics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Dislocations in ceramics enjoy a long but yet under‐appreciated history. The three research waves for dislocations in ceramics highlight the topic evolution over the last 90 years. This review focuses on the impact of dislocation on strength and toughness in ceramics.

Portfolio Selection with Monotone Mean-Variance Preferences [PDF]

open access: yes
We propose a portfolio selection model based on a class of monotone preferences that coincide with mean-variance preferences on their domain of monotonicity, but differ where mean-variance preferences fail to be monotone and are therefore not ...

Matrix monotone functions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
This thesis is about Loewner's theory of matrix monotone functions. Matrix monotone functions of order n are real functions which, when lifted via functional calculus, preserve Loewner order on n x n Hermitian matrices.

Ceilings of Monotone Boolean Functions

open access: yes, 1996
This paper considers a particular relationship defined overpairs of n-argument monotone Boolean functions. The relationship is of interest since we can show that if ( g, h ) satisfy it then for any n-argument monotone Boolean function f there is a close ...

Monotone operator functions on C*-algebras

open access: yes, 2005
The article is devoted to investigation of classes of functions monotone as functions on general C-*-algebras that are not necessarily the C-*-algebra of all bounded linear operators on a Hilbert space as in classical case of matrix and operator monotone

Inverse Identification of Energy‐Dependent Laser Absorptivity in NiTi Laser Powder‐Bed Fusion via Calibrated Melt Pool Simulation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A combined experimental–computational framework identifies energy‐dependent laser absorptivity for NiTi in laser powder‐bed fusion, applicable to conduction and transition modes. Single‐track experiments and thermofluid smoothed particle hydrodynamics simulations are coupled through inverse analysis of melt pool geometry.

Strictly monotone and smooth nonparametric regression for two or more variables [PDF]

open access: yes
In this article a new monotone nonparametric estimate for a regression function of two or more variables is proposed. The method starts with an unconstrained nonparametric regression estimate and uses successively one-dimensional isotonization procedures.

Microstructure, Thermal Transport, and Dry‐Sliding Tribology of Powder‐Metallurgy Al7075 Composites Reinforced With Sol–Gel‐Derived ZnO–rGO Hybrid Nanoparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Sol–gel‐derived ZnO–rGO hybrid nanoparticles enable Al7075 powder‐metallurgy composites to achieve concurrent gains in hardness and thermal conductivity while markedly lowering friction and wear. The hybrid architecture couples ZnO‐based load support with rGO‐assisted lamellar sliding and heat spreading, revealing a promising route toward lightweight ...

A simple nonparametric estimator of a monotone regression function [PDF]

open access: yes
In this paper a new method for monotone estimation of a regression function is proposed. The estimator is obtained by the combination of a density and a regression estimate and is appealing to users of conventional smoothing methods as kernel estimators,
