Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

Existence and Stability of Iterative Algorithm for a System of Random Set-Valued Variational Inclusion Problems Involving (A,m,η)-Generalized Monotone Operators

open access: yesJournal of Applied Mathematics, 2012
We introduce and study a class of a system of random set-valued variational inclusion problems. Some conditions for the existence of solutions of such problems are provided, when the operators are contained in the classes of generalized monotone ...

Best Approximation from the Kuhn-Tucker Set of Composite Monotone Inclusions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Kuhn-Tucker points play a fundamental role in the analysis and the numerical solution of monotone inclusion problems, providing in particular both primal and dual solutions.

Extensions of Monotone Operator Functions [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the American Mathematical Society, 1976
It is shown that a monotone operator function f f defined on an open subset Δ \Delta of the real numbers may be extended to a monotone operator function on the convex hull of Δ \Delta .

Numerical Exploration of Thermal Shock Resistance in MgO–C Refractories

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A mesostructure‐resolved numerical framework is developed to evaluate the thermal shock resistance of MgO–C refractories. By modeling interface debonding under rapid temperature changes and introducing a modified thermal shock parameter that accounts for mesocracks, the study shows how graphite content and aggregate size influence thermal shock ...

Strong convergence of an iterative sequence for maximal monotone operators in a Banach space

open access: yesAbstract and Applied Analysis, 2004
We first introduce a modified proximal point algorithm for maximal monotone operators in a Banach space. Next, we obtain a strong convergence theorem for resolvents of maximal monotone operators in a Banach space which generalizes the previous result by ...

Tailoring Functional Properties of Ti–Ni–Cu Shape Memory Alloy Thin Films for MEMS Actuators

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A comprehensive study of critical parameters required to develop well‐performing Ti–Ni–Cu thin film shape memory alloy microactuators is provided. Materials science and device integration aspects are integrated by addressing structural and physical relationships using complementary characterization techniques as well as a practical fabrication solution

General System of A-Monotone Nonlinear Variational Inclusions Problems with Applications

open access: yesJournal of Inequalities and Applications, 2009
We introduce and study a new system of nonlinear variational inclusions involving a combination of A-Monotone operators and relaxed cocoercive mappings.

Closedness type regularity conditions for surjectivity results involving the sum of two maximal monotone operators

open access: yes, 2010
In this note we provide regularity conditions of closedness type which guarantee some surjectivity results concerning the sum of two maximal monotone operators by using representative functions.

High‐Temperature Nanoindentation of Metals: Assessing Thermal Drift, Frame Compliance, and Chemical Composition Effects on the Reported Mechanical Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Do not let thermal drift and instrument artifacts deceive high‐temperature nanoindentation results. We compare classical Oliver–Pharr and automatic image recognition analyses across steels and a Ni alloy to quantify these effects. Accounting for artifacts reveals systematic softening with temperature, while Cr and Ni additions boost resistance ...
