A Multilevel Finite Difference Scheme for One-Dimensional Burgers Equation Derived from the Lattice Boltzmann Method

open access: yesJournal of Applied Mathematics, 2012
An explicit finite difference scheme for one-dimensional Burgers equation is derived from the lattice Boltzmann method. The system of the lattice Boltzmann equations for the distribution of the fictitious particles is rewritten as a three-level finite ...

An Explicit Constitutive Reconstruction Framework for Mechanical Characterization of Miniaturized 3D‐Printed Specimens

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An explicit constitutive reconstruction framework enables accurate tensile characterization of miniaturized additively manufactured specimens using only the grip‐to‐grip displacement measurements. Progressive validation through self‐consistency, analytical comparison, and inverse finite element method (iFEM) benchmarking demonstrates constitutive ...

Controlling Grain Growth in Powder Bed Fusion of Yttria‐Stabilized Zirconia Using Femtosecond Lasers: Challenges and Methodological Insights

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Binder‐free laser powder bed fusion of 8YSZ with a femtosecond laser is used to map process windows linking scan strategy, heat accumulation, and grain growth. Time‐resolved thermography and simulations reveal thermal regimes that enable continuous, vitrified, and fine‐grained 8YSZ surface layers without absorptive additives and demonstrate ...

Solution of Mismatched Monotone+Lipschitz Inclusion Problems

open access: yesSIAM Journal on Optimization
In this article, we study the convergence of algorithms for solving monotone inclusions in the presence of adjoint mismatch. The adjoint mismatch arises when the adjoint of a linear operator is replaced by an approximation, due to computational or physical issues. This occurs in inverse problems, particularly in computed tomography.

Gallium Microalloying in Bi–Sn Solders: Interfacial Phase Formation, Wettability, and Long‐Term Shear Reliability Under Isothermal Aging

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Gallium microalloying redirects interfacial reactions in low‐temperature Bi–Sn solders from Cu–Sn toward Cu–Ga intermetallic formation. The resulting Cu–Ga layer suppresses intermetallic growth during thermal aging, alters fracture pathways, and improves interfacial stability.

Continuability and boundedness of solutions to nonlinear second-order differential equations

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2010
Continuability, boundedness, and monotonicity of solutions for a class of second-order nonlinear differential equations are discussed. It is proved that all solutions are eventually monotonic and can be extended to infinity under some natural ...

Investigating the Low‐Temperature Phase Stability of the Binary Ta–W System

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Atomistic simulations show that the binary Ta–W system forms ordered intermetallic phases, B2‐TaW and D03‐TaW3, as 0 K ground states. Configurational entropy, however, lowers the free energy of the disordered bcc solid solution, which becomes the stable phase above about 400 K.

On monotonic core allocations for coalitional games whith veto players [PDF]

open access: yes
We characterize a monotonic core concept defined on the class of veto balanced games. We also discuss what restricted versions of monotonicity are possible when selecting core allocations.

A Novel Approach to Estimate the Transition Temperature via Dynamic Nanoindentation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A new dynamic nanoindentation‐based method was developed that uses the stiffness ratio as an indicator of the elastic–plastic deformation contributions at different temperatures. The approach successfully identified transition temperatures in ferritic steel and distinguished them from continuously ductile austenitic steel.

Monotonic core solutions: Beyond Young's theorem [PDF]

open access: yes
We introduce two new monotonicity properties for core concepts: single-valued solution concepts that always select a core allocation whenever the game is balanced (has a nonempty core). We present one result of impossibility for one of the properties and
