Electronically conducting montmorillonite-Cu2S and montmorillonite-Cu2S-polypyrrole nanocomposites

Abstract By making use of cation-exchange approach, montmorillonite-Cu 2 S (MMT-Cu 2 S) nanocomposite was prepared and characterized. Its conductivity was found to be 3.03 × 10 −4  S m −1 . Pyrrole was introduced to MMT-Cu 2 S and polymerized within the interlayer to obtain MMT-Cu 2 S-polypyrrole (MMT-Cu 2 S-PPY) nanocomposite.

DIMEPIPERATE ADSORPTION AND HYDROLYSIS ON AL3+-MONTMORILLONITE, FE3+-MONTMORILLONITE, CA2+-MONTMORILLONITE, AND NA+-MONTMORILLONITE

The adsorption of the herbicide dimepiperate S-(alpha,alpha-dimethylbenzyl)-1-piperidinecarbothioate on homoionic Fe3+-, Al3+-, Ca2+-, and Na+-montmorillonite was studied in aqueous medium. The adsorption is described well by the Freundlich equation. The adsorption capacity decreases in the order Fe3+ > Al3+ > Ca2+ > Na+ clay.

Acid-base chemistry of montmorillonitic and beidellitic-montmorillonitic smectite

Suspension of a Tunisian purified smectite and American montmorillonite are studied by acid-base potentiometric and mass titrations. These experimental methods are used to determine the point of zero net proton charge (PZNPC). A very good agreement is observed between the two kinds of experiments.

Fine-grained micas are consistent impurities in Camp-Berteaux (Morocco) and Wyoming montmorillonites. These micas give selected-area electron diffraction spot patterns with triclinic, monoclinic, and hexagonal symmetries similar to those reported previously for montmorillonites.
