Enhancing Direct Solar Water Splitting via ALD of Multifunctional TiO2/Pt Nanoparticle Coatings With Engineered Interfaces to GaAs/GaInP Tandem Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Multifunctional atomic layer deposited coatings and interface treatments enhance direct solar water splitting on GaAs/GaInP tandem cells. Optimized TiO2/Pt nanoparticle bilayers ensure durability and catalytic efficiency with minimal optical losses, while H2 plasma pretreatments maximize photovoltage and interfacial charge extraction.

Prospects for radio detection of extremely high energy cosmic rays and neutrinos in the Moon [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
We explore the feasibility of using the Moon as a detector of extremely high energy (>10^19 eV) cosmic rays and neutrinos. The idea is to use the existing radiotelescopes on Earth to look for short pulses of Cherenkov radiation in the GHz range emitted ...

Enhanced Mechanical and Electrochemical Properties of Carbon Nanotube Fibers via Embedded Sucrose‐Derived Porous Carbon for Mechanoelectrochemical Energy Harvesting

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Sucrose‐derived porous carbon network (SPINE‐C) is formed within CNT fibers via FCCVD, bridging inter‐bundles of CNTs and increasing surface area through introduced microporosity. As a result, both mechanical and electrochemical properties are simultaneously enhanced, leading to a 2.8‐fold increase in the power density of a mechano‐electrochemical ...

Photonic Engineering Enables All‐Passive Upconversion Imaging with Low‐Intensity Near‐Infrared Light

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A passive upconversion imaging system enables the observation of scenes illuminated by low‐intensity incoherent near‐infrared light from 750 to 930 nm, by converting it into the visible without the use of external power. The upconverter is enabled by triplet–triplet annihilation in a bulk heterojunction, with absorption enhanced by plasmonic resonators

The effect of planet-planet scattering on the survival of exomoons

open access: yes, 2013
Compared to the giant planets in the solar system, exoplanets have many remarkable properties such as the prevalence of giant planets on eccentric orbits and the presence of hot Jupiters. Planet-planet scattering (PPS) between giant planets is a possible
