Gaussian copula-based Bayesian Networks for dynamic loads in mooring systems

open access: yesApplied Ocean Research
Offshore floating structures are experiencing harsh environmental conditions risking their safety. Therefore, mooring lines are crucial for ensuring structures’ stability.

Experimental and Modeling Investigation of Seawater Hydrolysis Effects on Aramid Fiber Rupture Behavior

open access: yesJournal of Polymer Science, EarlyView.
Hydrolytic aging in seawater produces markedly different mechanical responses among commercial Aramid fibers. While some fibers exhibit progressive degradation, others maintain stable or even improved tensile behavior. Experimental yarn‐scale testing combined with mathematical degradation modeling and Arrhenius‐based lifetime prediction provides new ...

Dynamic Response Assessment of Floating Offshore Wind Turbine Mooring Systems with Different In-Line Tensioner Configurations Based on Fully Coupled Load Calculations

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
In-line tensioning technology has significantly reduced the cost barriers that previously hindered the expansion of the floating offshore wind industry. However, assessing the impact of in-line tensioners on the dynamic response of floating offshore wind

Modulation of wind drag by tidal currents in an embayment

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
Tidal currents modulate how wind energy enters the surface wave field by influencing both wave drag and wave generation. In Shark Bay, following currents reduce effective wave steepness and wind drag, and opposing currents enhance wave growth. Wind energy is partitioned between wave drag and the creation of new waves, explaining observed tidal ...

Hydrodynamic Performance and Mooring Safety Assessment of an Offshore Floating Movable Fish Cage

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
This study evaluates the hydrodynamic performance of a movable fish cage equipped with a spread mooring system in offshore condition. It investigates the global behavior and safety of a mooring system under environmental influences such as waves ...

Impact of data assimilation on Arctic sea‐ice thickness variability and its coupling with atmospheric forcing

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
We document for the first time how the assimilation of CS2SMOS observations improves the model representation of Arctic sea‐ice thickness (SIT) and its variability: biases are reduced (top row), while excessive variability in the Beaufort Sea and lack of variability in the ice pack are both corrected (bottom row).

A Multi‐Method Approach to Assessing Barrier Effectiveness in Preventing the Spread of Invasive Signal Crayfish (Pacifastacus leniusculus)

open access: yesRiver Research and Applications, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Relieving barriers and increasing free flowing rivers is a global imperative to restore habitat connectivity for migratory fish stocks. While reducing river fragmentation will certainly improve biodiversity, the spread of non‐native species throughout a river system may be facilitated as an inadvertent outcome.

Rhyming in the cold: first evidence of soniferous fishes in the Southern Ocean

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, EarlyView.
The acoustic ecology of Southern Ocean fishes remains unknown due to a lack of dedicated acoustic research on the fishes of this ocean. Passive acoustic monitoring data were collected at the South African sub‐Antarctic Prince Edward Islands using an underwater acoustic recorder, and towed underwater Ski‐Monkey cameras were deployed to identify fish ...

Dynamic Effective Tension in FPSO Mooring Lines

open access: yes
Deepwater Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) systems depend mainly on the condition of their mooring systems to maintain safe position under normal operation and harsh metocean conditions. The Bonga FPSO, operating at about 1000m water depth in the Gulf of Guinea, is subjected to significant dynamic loading on its mooring network ...

Sustainability: The Forgotten Arena of eSports Research—A Systematic Literature Review From an ESG Perspective

open access: yesSustainable Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Despite the growth of eSports, the sector faces critical challenges related to its sustainability. This research analyzes these issues from an environmental, social, and governance (ESG) perspective. This paper consists of a systematic literature review on eSports and its implications for sustainability.
