Distinct Nasal Microbiome Profiles and Prediction Model for Allergic Rhinitis, Nonallergic Rhinitis, and Healthy Children

open access: yesWorld Journal of Otorhinolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, EarlyView.
The alpha and beta diversity of the nasal microbiome differed among children with allergic rhinitis (AR), nonallergic rhinitis (NAR), and healthy controls (HCs). Compared to HC, AR had more Escherichia‐Shigella, Negativicoccus, and Campylobacter, while NAR had more Dolosigranulum and fewer Enterobacteriaceae.

The Antimicrobial Susceptibility of Moraxella Species Other Than Moraxella Catarrhalis

open access: yesTurkiye Klinikleri Journal of Medical Sciences, 2015
ABS TRACT Objective: Although Moraxella species are members of the normal respiratory flora, some species, including M. catarrhalis, M. osloensis, M. nonliquefaciens, and M. lacunata, can cause serious infections in humans. The purpose of this study was to investigate the antimicrobial susceptibility of Moraxella species other than M.

Longer Asthma Duration Is Associated With Elevated Non‐T2 Sputum Biomarkers and Reduced T2 Inflammation in Severe Asthma

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
Longer asthma duration is associated with increased airway non‐T2 inflammation and reduced airway and systemic T2 inflammation. Sputum CXCL9 is independently associated with duration and may predict a reduced poor response to anti‐IL‐4Rα therapy. Airway sampling and combined T2 and non‐T2 targeted strategies may be needed in long‐standing asthma. CXCL9,

Moraxella catarrhalis sepsis

open access: yesMicrobiologia Medica, 2008
Moraxella catarrhalis is a Gram-negative aerobic diplococcus, commensal of the oro-pharingeal cavity, actually playing an emerging role in the upper respiratory tract infections together with Streptococcus pneumoniae and Haemophilus influenzae.

The Airway Transcriptome in Type 2 Cytokine Biomarker‐High and ‐Low Severe Asthma

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
This study distinguishes severe asthma–related airway transcriptomic changes from the effects of high‐dose ICS. Most dysregulated genes in severe asthma show concordance with corticosteroid responses. Corticosteroid‐resistant T2‐high asthma featured T2‐high and epithelial barrier gene upregulation, while T2‐low asthma featured Th1/IL‐17 signatures. ASM,

Association between Moraxella keratitis and advanced glycation end products

open access: yesScientific Reports
Diabetes mellitus is recognized as a major predisposing factor for Moraxella keratitis. However, how diabetes mellitus contributes to Moraxella keratitis remains unclear.

Pathogenic Airway Bacteria and Local Immune Responses During Early‐Life Asthma‐Like Episodes

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
This study investigates how Haemophilus influenzae, Streptococcus pneumoniae, and Moraxella catarrhalis associate with airway immune responses during early‐life asthma‐like episodes, and compare these responses between children with and without asthma.

16S/18S metabarcoding versus culture for aetiological assessment in infectious keratitis: A prospective paired‐sample study

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose Infectious keratitis (IK) is a vision‐threatening condition with diverse microbial aetiologies, yet conventional culture‐based diagnostics often have limited sensitivity. We investigated whether 16S/18S rRNA amplicon‐based next‐generation sequencing (NGS) can enhance aetiological assessment when used alongside standard microbiological ...

Oral Health, Periodontitis, and Respiratory Diseases: Biological Pathways

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
This narrative review aims to provide a comprehensive update on the potential mechanisms by which poor oral health and periodontitis impact lung health, focusing on pneumonia, COPD, and asthma. ABSTRACT Poor oral hygiene and periodontitis influence lung diseases such as pneumonia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), COVID‐19, and asthma.
