First report of the whole genome of Moraxella bovoculi genotype 1 from India and comparative genomics of Moraxella bovoculi to identify genotype-specific markers

Archives of Microbiology, 2022
Moraxella bovoculi has been isolated frequently from cattle with Infectious bovine keratoconjunctivitis (IBK). Two diverse genotypes of M. bovoculi, 1 and 2 were identified based on whole genome sequence analysis. It is essential to discriminate between the two genotypes to frame prevention and control measures. The whole genome of M.

Identification and characterization of complete RTX operons in Moraxella bovoculi and Moraxella ovis

Veterinary Microbiology, 2007
To determine if Moraxella bovoculi (M. bovoculi), a recently characterized coccoid Moraxella that was isolated from the eyes of calves affected with infectious bovine keratoconjunctivitis (IBK), and Moraxella ovis (M. ovis), originally isolated from sheep with conjunctivitis, possessed genes encoding RTX proteins, genomic DNA was amplified with ...

Bovine Immune Responses to Moraxella bovis and Moraxella bovoculi Following Vaccination and Natural or Experimental Infections

Veterinary Clinics of North America: Food Animal Practice, 2021
Studies have sought to develop effective vaccines against infectious bovine keratoconjunctivitis (IBK). Most research has focused on parenterally administered vaccines against Moraxella bovis antigens; however, researchers have also included Moraxella bovoculi antigens in vaccines to prevent IBK. Critical knowledge gaps remain as to which Moraxella spp

Antigenic characterization of Moraxella bovis, Moraxella bovoculi and Moraxella ovis strains with potential use in vaccines

Veterinary Microbiology, 2017
Moraxella bovis is historically known as the primary agent of infectious bovine keratoconjunctivitis (IBK). However, Moraxella bovoculi and Moraxella ovis are also reported to be involved in the pathogenesis of IBK, therefore, these three species should be included in the development of a new vaccine with a broad-spectrum protection against the disease

Emergence of Moraxella bovoculi Associated with Keratoconjunctivitis in an Organized Dairy Farm of India

Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences India Section B - Biological Sciences, 2017
An investigation was carried out in an organized dairy farm of Tamil Nadu State, India where cattle were reported to have eye infection. Preliminary clinical intervention revealed that the animals had infectious bovine keratoconjunctivitis (IBK). Isolation and identification of pathogen from eye swab revealed the presence of Moraxella spp.

Development and evaluation of a multiplex real-time PCR assay for the detection and differentiation of Moraxella bovis, Moraxella bovoculi and Moraxella ovis in pure culture isolates and lacrimal swabs collected from conventionally raised cattle [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Applied Microbiology, 2011
To develop a multiplex real-time PCR assay for the detection and differentiation of Moraxella bovis (M. bovis), M. bovoculi and M. ovis. The multiplex real-time PCR assay was validated on three reference strains, 57 pure culture isolates and 45 lacrimal swab samples. All reference strains were identified correctly with no cross-reactions between species.

Moraxella bovis,Moraxella ovisandMoraxella bovoculi: biofilm formation and lysozyme activity

Journal of Applied Microbiology, 2018
This study aimed to verify the formation of biofilms by Moraxella bovis, Moraxella ovis and Moraxella bovoculi isolates from ruminants. In addition, the lysozyme activity against the isolates of M. bovis, M. ovis and M. bovoculi in free form and in biofilms was determined. In this study, 54 isolates of Moraxella sp.

Descriptive epidemiology of Moraxella bovis, Moraxella bovoculi and Moraxella ovis in beef calves with naturally occurring infectious bovine keratoconjunctivitis (Pinkeye)

Veterinary Microbiology, 2012
Infectious bovine keratoconjunctivitis (IBK) is an ocular disease that causes substantial weight loss in beef calves. The objective of this study was to evaluate the association between Moraxella bovoculi, Moraxella bovis and Moraxella ovis and IBK incidence.A cohort design was used.
