Vaccines for Moraxella catarrhalis

Vaccine, 2000
Vaccine development for Moraxella catarrhalis is in the antigen identification stage. M. catarrhalis does not appear to synthesize secreted antigens such as exotoxins, nor does it appear to possess a carbohydrate capsule. Modified forms of these antigens are usually good vaccine components.

Moraxella catarrhalis bacteremia

Clinical Microbiology Newsletter, 1997
hospital, she subsequemly developed a severe infection that over the course of several years involved the bones of her leg. The non-physician expert acting as consultant for the plaintiff's attorney, was able to suggest that the treating physician closed the wound prematurely which predisposed to the infection.

The epidemiology of Moraxella catarrhalis [PDF]

open access: possible, 2022
Moraxella catarrhalis is a pathogen of increasing importance and is recognised as one of the most common causes of respiratory tract infection. In particular, it is known for its role in causing otitis media (OM) in children and exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in adults.

Development of a shuttle vector for Moraxella catarrhalis

Plasmid, 2006
Efforts to perform genetic analysis in Moraxella catarrhalis have been hampered by the lack of a cloning vector. M. catarrhalis strain E22 was previously shown to contain plasmid pLQ510 which lacked a selectable antibiotic resistance marker. Several methods were used to eliminate unnecessary DNA from pLQ510.

Laboratory Maintenance of Moraxella catarrhalis

Current Protocols in Microbiology, 2008
AbstractMoraxella catarrhalis is a Gram‐negative bacterium that has recently emerged as the third leading cause of bacterial ear infections in children. This organism is also responsible for a variety of upper respiratory tract illnesses in adults, including ∼10% of all cases of respiratory exacerbations in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary ...

Moraxella catarrhalis – Pathogen or Commensal?

2010
Moraxella catarrhalis is an exclusively human commensal and mucosal pathogen. Its role as a disease-causing organism has long been questioned. Today, it is recognized as one of the major causes of acute otitis media in children, and its relative frequency of isolation from both the nasopharynx and the middle ear cavity has increased since the ...

Mechanism of adherence of moraxella (branhamella) catarrhalis

Scandinavian Journal of Infectious Diseases, 1991
We examined the mechanisms of adherence of Moraxella catarrhalis to nasopharyngeal epithelial cells. Fimbriae were detected by electron microscopy on most of the strains studied. A role of fimbriae in adherence was supported by the reduction in adherence by treatments denaturing the fimbriae or by antifimbrial antibodies.

Moraxella catarrhalis Bacteremia and Preseptal Cellulitis

Southern Medical Journal, 1994
Invasive disease due to Moraxella catarrhalis is rare and has been associated mostly with immune deficiency conditions. We describe the first case of M catarrhalis bacteremia and preseptal cellulitis in an immunocompetent infant. This organism may be evolving from one with low pathogenicity to one with increased pathogenicity.

Acute mastoiditis caused by Moraxella catarrhalis

International Journal of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology, 2003
Acute mastoiditis is the most frequent intratemporal complication of otitis media. The bacteriology of acute otitis media is changing continuously and it differs markedly from the bacteriology of acute mastoiditis. Moraxella catarrhalis (M. catarrhalis) is the third most common bacteria found in acute otitis media, and in recent years its importance as
