Morse index and causal continuity. A criterion for topology change in quantum gravity [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
Studies in 1+1 dimensions suggest that causally discontinuous topology changing spacetimes are suppressed in quantum gravity. Borde and Sorkin have conjectured that causal discontinuities are associated precisely with index 1 or n-1 Morse points in ...

Simplifying Weinstein Morse functions [PDF]

open access: yesGeometry & Topology, 2020
We prove that the minimum number of critical points of a Weinstein Morse function on a Weinstein domain of dimension at least six is at most two more than the minimum number of critical points of a smooth Morse function on that domain; if the domain has non-zero middle-dimensional homology, these two numbers agree.

Bulk modulus for Morse potential interaction with the distribution function based

open access: yesChemical Thermodynamics and Thermal Analysis, 2022
The bulk modulus is a significant coefficient for the study of the compressible behaviour of the materials in the bulk case. The bulk moduli can be determined via the experimental method by measuring of the elastic parameters, via the semi-empirical ...

YFDM: YOLO for detecting Morse code

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
With the increasing complexity of the shortwave communication environment, the efficiency and accuracy of the manual detection of Morse code no longer meet actual needs. Therefore, this paper proposes a Morse code detection algorithm called YFDM. For the

Morse Inequalities for Orbifold Cohomology

open access: yes, 2007
This paper begins the study of Morse theory for orbifolds, or more precisely for differentiable Deligne-Mumford stacks. The main result is an analogue of the Morse inequalities that relates the orbifold Betti numbers of an almost-complex orbifold to the ...

Indefinite Morse 2-functions; broken fibrations and generalizations

open access: yes, 2014
A Morse 2-function is a generic smooth map from a smooth manifold to a surface. In the absence of definite folds (in which case we say that the Morse 2-function is indefinite), these are natural generalizations of broken (Lefschetz) fibrations.

S-Band Doppler Wave Radar System

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2017
In this paper, a novel shore-based S-band microwave Doppler coherent wave radar (Microwave Ocean Remote SEnsor (MORSE)) is designed to improve wave measurements.

The Murnaghan―Nakayama rule for k-Schur functions [PDF]

open access: yesDiscrete Mathematics & Theoretical Computer Science, 2011
We prove a Murnaghan–Nakayama rule for k-Schur functions of Lapointe and Morse. That is, we give an explicit formula for the expansion of the product of a power sum symmetric function and a k-Schur function in terms of k-Schur functions.
