Cancer mortality trends in China from 2013–2021 and projections to 2030

open access: yesCancer Biology & Medicine
Objective: This study aimed to analyze the temporal trends in cancer mortality in China from 2013–2021 and project the future trends through 2030. Methods: This study was based on the China Causes of Death Surveillance Dataset, which covers 2.37 billion ...

Global projections of temperature-attributable mortality due to enteric infections: a modelling study.

open access: yesLancet Planetary Health, 2021
BACKGROUND Mortality due to enteric infections is projected to increase because of global warming; however, the different temperature sensitivities of major enteric pathogens have not yet been considered in projections on a global scale.

A Simple Approach to Project Extreme Old Age Mortality Rates and Value Mortality-Related Financial Instruments [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
This article shows how mortality models that involve age effects can be fitted to ages beyond the sample range using projections of age effects as replacements for age effects that might not be in the sample.

Projected Red Pine Yields from Aldrin-Treated and Untreated Stands Damaged by White Grub (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae) and Other Agents at Stand Age Ten Years [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
White grubs affect pine plantations by killing some trees and by reducing vigor and growth of others. Light to moderate mortality only slightly affects timber yields and financial re- turns if the level of trees remains at the number required for full ...

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.

On the Projection of Mortality Rates to Extreme Old Age [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
This article shows how cohort mortality rate projections of mortality models that involve age effects can be improved and extended to extreme old ages. The proposed approach allows insurers to use such mortality models to obtain valuations of financial ...

Engineered extracellular vesicles enriched with the miR‐214/199a cluster enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...

Future temperature-related mortality in the UK under climate change scenarios: impact of population ageing and bias-corrected climate projections.

open access: yesEnvironmental Research
BACKGROUND Exposure to heat and cold poses a serious threat to human health. In the UK, hotter summers, milder winters and an ageing population will shift how populations experience temperature-related health burdens.

Endogenous Fishing Mortalities: a State-Space Bioeconomic Model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
A methodology that endogenously determines catchability functions that link fi shing mortality with contemporaneous stock abundance is presented. We consider a stochastic age-structured model for a fishery composed by a number of fi shing units ...
