Abstract This study examines whether the capitalization of mortgage loan servicing rights (MSRs) is consistent with FASB’s objective of fair value accounting. The FASB issued SFAS No. 122 , “Accounting for Mortgage Servicing Rights, an amendment of FASB Statement No. 65 ” with the prescription that the MSRs be capitalized at their fair value.
