Expression cartography of human tissues using self organizing maps [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Background: The availability of parallel, high-throughput microarray and sequencing experiments poses a challenge how to best arrange and to analyze the obtained heap of multidimensional data in a concerted way.

Disentangling the physical reality of star cluster candidates projected towards the inner disc of the Large Magellanic Cloud [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We have used Washington photometry for 90 star cluster candidates of small angular size -typically ~ 11" in radius- distributed within nine selected regions in the inner disc of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) to disentangle whether they are genuine ...

Intelligent Stain‐Free Histology on Structural Colorimetric Nanocavities

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Chen and Gan et al. introduce a label‐free imaging platform using inexpensive Nanocavity‐on‐Silicon (NOS) slides. These slides transform subtle tissue variations into vivid structural colors, enabling high‐contrast histological imaging under a regular optical microscope. This stain‐free approach reveals morphological details comparable to traditional H&

Dissortative From the Outside, Assortative From the Inside: Social Structure and Behavior in the Industrial Trade Network

open access: yes, 2014
It is generally accepted that neighboring nodes in financial networks are negatively assorted with respect to the correlation between their degrees. This feature would play an important 'damping' role in the market during downturns (periods of distress ...

Actin Cytoskeleton and Golgi Involvement in Barley stripe mosaic virus Movement and Cell Wall Localization of Triple Gene Block Proteins. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Barley stripe mosaic virus (BSMV) induces massive actin filament thickening at the infection front of infected Nicotiana benthamiana leaves. To determine the mechanisms leading to actin remodeling, fluorescent protein fusions of the BSMV triple gene ...

Autophagy Activators Normalize Aberrant Tau Proteostasis and Rescue Synapses in Human Familial Alzheimer's Disease iPSC‐Derived Cortical Organoids

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A new cerebrocortical organoid model using isogenic hiPSCs with familial Alzheimer's mutations recapitulates key AD features, including amyloid‐beta and phospho‐Tau aggregation, neuronal hyperexcitability, and synapse loss. Single‐cell RNA‐seq reveals aberrant pathways in excitatory and inhibitory neurons.

The patterning of retinal horizontal cells: normalizing the regularity index enhances the detection of genomic linkage

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroanatomy, 2014
Retinal neurons are often arranged as non-random distributions called mosaics, as their somata minimize proximity to neighboring cells of the same type.

NuSAP Safeguards Centriole Integrity to Mediate CEP57‐CEP152 Torus Recruitment for Proper Engagement

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals a novel role for the microtubule stabilizer NuSAP at centrioles. NuSAP depletion destabilizes the centriole's tubulin structure, causing premature disengagement, PCM defects, and mis‐localization of the CEP57‐CEP63‐CEP152 complex. By reinforcing centriole architecture, NuSAP enables early CEP57 loading and initiates a newly proposed ...

Deep U band and R imaging of GOODS-South: Observations, data reduction and first results

open access: yes, 2009
We present deep imaging in the {\em U} band covering an area of 630 arcmin$^{2}$ centered on the southern field of the Great Observatories Origins Deep Survey (GOODS). The data were obtained with the VIMOS instrument at the ESO Very Large Telescope.
