High prevalence of a host‐associated Anaplasma lineage in wild coatis (Nasua nasua) from the Brazilian Atlantic Forest

open access: yesMedical and Veterinary Entomology, EarlyView.
Anaplasma sp. DNA was detected in 47.9% of free‐ranging coatis (Nasua nasua) sampled in Iguaçu National Park, southern Brazil. Molecular analyses revealed a genetically distinct Anaplasma lineage infecting coatis, differing from Anaplasma strains detected in associated tick populations.

Effect of blood meals and mating on biodemographic characteristics of Aedes albopictus

open access: yesPhysiological Entomology, EarlyView.
Lifespan did not differ between virgin and mated males and females. The number of blood meals (one and two) significantly reduced adult lifespan compared with those with no blood meal. The effect of the second blood meal doubled females' egg production and their reproductive output.

Evaluation of Serum Ferritin Levels and Their Correlation With Clinical Outcomes in Dengue Virus Infection in a Population of Older Adults

open access: yesTropical Medicine &International Health, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives Prior studies have associated elevated ferritin levels with worse dengue outcomes but data from older adults remain limited. The aim of this study is to evaluate the serum ferritin levels and their correlation with disease severity in a population of older adults.
