Abstract Natural dyes are compounds that occur naturally in several organisms and are classified based on chemical structure and application method. The literature cites several natural dyes used in industrial transformation processes. Annatto dye is used in the food industry, and its biological pigment is extracted from the annatto seed. However, this

Resource Availability Overrides Predator Presence in Mosquito Oviposition Habitat Selection
Gravid Culex quinquefasciatus balance predation risk against resource availability when selecting oviposition sites. In outdoor mesocosms, we factorially manipulated sugarcane jaggery (resource) and notonectid predators (adult vs. nymph; caged vs. free‐swimming) across 2 years.

Hyperspectral proximal sensing was used to characterize the life stages and physiological responses of Diatraea saccharalis and to detect parasitism by Cotesia flavipes. Distinct spectral signatures differentiated eggs, larval instars, pupae, and adults, as well as live, dead, and parasitized larvae.

Salty conditions in urban stormwater ponds can influence dispersal timing in species‐specific ways for actively dispersing aquatic heteropteran insects. Assaying multiple aspects of dispersal propensity, Hesperocorixa obliqua emigrated earlier in stormwater pond conditions while overall probabilities remained unchanged; Notonecta undulata emigration ...

The disappearance of malaria from Denmark, 1862–1900
Abstract The reason for malaria's disappearance from northwestern Europe in the early twentieth century has long been discussed but remains an unresolved conundrum. This is partially due to a previous focus on the early modern era, and partially because various theories have never been tested against each other.
