Fungal infection affects sexual signalling and mate choice in the sugarcane borer
Fungus‐infected Diatraea saccharalis females exhibit enhanced attractiveness to males in wind tunnel assays. Fungal infection alters the pheromone profile of females, increasing the relative abundance of Z9‐16: Ald, a minor but behaviourally active component of the species' sex pheromone blend.

250,000 observations of 7 annual, 11 biennial and 4 flexible lepidoptera species in the Alps and over 150,000 observations of 5 biennial species from Scandinavia were analysed. Maps show distinct patterns of different species that fly predominantly in odd or even years in the researched areas.

Double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) biopesticides offer the potential for highly targeted pest control with minimal off-target impacts. Varroa mites (Varroa destructor) are an important pest of honey bees (Apis mellifera) that are primarily managed by synthetic ...

Sympatric species are expected to use resources differently along one or more ecological dimensions. This can be complex when there is partial separation along multiple dimensions, such as where bird species exhibit similarities in habitat use and diet.

Understanding dietary preferences and prey selection is pivotal for interpreting the ecology and conservation needs of threatened species. We investigated the diet composition and prey selection of the Red‐backed Shrike Lanius collurio in a montane grassland of the central Italian Apennines, with special regard to sex‐related differences and the ...

Constant visitation rates across the flowering season masked major shifts in plant and flower visitor interaction structure, specialization, species roles and trait‐driven patterns shaping interaction intensity. Plants and flower visitors changed ecological roles over time, with native flower visitors playing key roles in maintaining network cohesion ...

[MOTH FLIES (DIPTERA, PSYCHODIDAE) AS A NEW MEDICAL DISINSECTION OBJECT].
This paper is dedicated to moth flies, a new medical disinsection object in our country. These insects are common in urban areas, generally in the premises with poor sanitary conditions. Moth fly larvae may cause accidental human urinary miasmata; imagoes, if many, become a worrisome factor; a source of allergy, and potential mechanical vectors of ...

Comparing deep learning models for butterfly and moth (Lepidoptera) species identification
Deep learning models open new possibilities for the processing of image‐based species records. We used high‐performance computing to compare 40 models for butterfly and moth species identification based on a citizen science dataset with over 500,000 images of 162 species.
