Efficacy of computer-assisted, 3D motion-capture toothbrushing instruction

open access: yesClinical Oral Investigations, 2014
The objective of this study was to compare the efficacy of computer-assisted TBI using a smart toothbrush (ST) and smart mirror (SM) in plaque control to that of conventional TBI.We evaluated the plaque removal efficacy of a ST comprising a computer-assisted, wirelessly linked, three-dimensional (3D) motion-capture, data-logging, and SM system in TBI ...

Augmented reality using a 3D motion capturing suit [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the 4th Augmented Human International Conference, 2013
In the paper, we propose an approach that immerses the human user in an Augmented Reality (AR) environment with the use of an inertial motion capturing suit and a Head Mounted Displays system. The proposed approach allows for full body interaction with the AR environment in real-time and it does not require the use of any markers or cameras.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Motion Capture Research: 3D Human Pose Recovery Based on RGB Video Sequences

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2019
Using video sequences to restore 3D human poses is of great significance in the field of motion capture. This paper proposes a novel approach to estimate 3D human action via end-to-end learning of deep convolutional neural network to calculate the ...

Approaches for Hybrid Coregistration of Marker-Based and Markerless Coordinates Describing Complex Body/Object Interactions

open access: yesSensors, 2023
Full-body motion capture is essential for the study of body movement. Video-based, markerless, mocap systems are, in some cases, replacing marker-based systems, but hybrid systems are less explored.

MonoPerfCap: Human Performance Capture from Monocular Video

open access: yes, 2018
We present the first marker-less approach for temporally coherent 3D performance capture of a human with general clothing from monocular video. Our approach reconstructs articulated human skeleton motion as well as medium-scale non-rigid surface ...

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Motion Capture System for Finger Movement Measurement in Parkinson Disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a chronic neurodegenerative disorder that affects almost 1% of the population in the age group above 60 years. The key symptom in PD is the restriction of mobility.

AAA+ protein unfoldases—the Moirai of the proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
AAA+ unfoldases are essential molecular motors that power protein degradation and disaggregation. This review integrates recent cryo‐electron microscopy (cryo‐EM) structures and single‐molecule biophysical data to reconcile competing models of substrate translocation.

Laminar Cortical Dynamics of Visual Form and Motion Interactions During Coherent Object Motion Perception [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
How do visual form and motion processes cooperate to compute object motion when each process separately is insufficient? A 3D FORMOTION model specifies how 3D boundary representations, which separate figures from backgrounds within cortical area V2 ...
