Current surveillance systems frequently use fixed-angle cameras and record a feed from those cameras. There are several disadvantages to such systems, including a low resolution for far away objects, a limited frame range and wasted disk space.

Motion streaks improve motion detection
A number of studies were conducted to determine whether motion-streaks assist motion extraction, and whether a purely motion-based model could account for any observed facilitation. A 3-frame global-motion stimulus was used. Signal dots were manipulated in order to control the strength of the motion-streak.

Detection and Tracking of Independent Motion. [PDF]
We describe an efficient method of using a translating camera to detect and track independently translating objects and assess the likelihood of a collision. By analysing the underlying geometry, it is shown that the tracking is reduced to two independent linear searches for a single feature in the image plane.

Reducing Bitrate and Increasing the Quality of Inter Frame by Avoiding Quantization Errors in Stationary Blocks [PDF]
In image compression and video coding, quantization error helps to reduce the amount of information ofthe high frequency components. However, in temporal prediction the quantization error contributes its valueas noise in the total residual information ...

Learning to detect Motion Boundaries [PDF]
We propose a learning-based approach for motion boundary detection. Precise localization of motion boundaries is essential for the success of optical flow estimation, as motion boundaries correspond to discontinuities of the optical flow field. The proposed approach allows to predict motion boundaries, using a structured random forest trained on the ...

Nonlinear Motion Detection [PDF]
This work presents new ideas in multidimensional signal theory: an isotropic quadrature filter approach for extracting local features of arbitrary curved signals without the use of any steering techniques. We unify scale space, local amplitude, orientation, phase and curvature in one framework. The main idea is to lift up signals by a conformal mapping
