A modular architecture for trial-by-trial learning of redundant muscle activity patterns in novel sensorimotor tasks. [PDF]
The coordination of the multiple degrees-of-freedom of the human body may be simplified by muscle synergies, motor modules which can be flexibly combined to achieve various goals.

Motor processing modulates word comprehension
We evaluated whether movement modulates the semantic processing of words. To this end, we used homograph words with two meanings, one associated with hand movements (e.g., ‘abanico’, ‘fan’ in Spanish) or foot movements (‘bota’, ‘boot’ in Spanish), and the other not associated with movement (‘abanico’, ‘range’ in Spanish; ‘bota’, ‘wineskin’ in Spanish).

Increased bradykinesia in Parkinson’s disease with increased movement complexity: elbow flexion-extension movements [PDF]
The present research investigates factors contributing to bradykinesia in the control of simple and complex voluntary limb movement in Parkinson’s disease (PD) patients.

Endocannabinoid Modulation of Dopaminergic Motor Circuits [PDF]
There is substantial evidence supporting a role for the endocannabinoid system as a modulator of the dopaminergic activity in the basal ganglia, a forebrain system that integrates cortical information to coordinate motor activity regulating signals.

Muscle Synergies in Parkinson’s Disease
Over the last two decades, experimental studies in humans and other vertebrates have increasingly used muscle synergy analysis as a computational tool to examine the physiological basis of motor control.

Motor modulation of afferent somatosensory circuits [PDF]
A prominent feature of thalamocortical circuitry in sensory systems is the extensive and highly organized feedback projection from the cortex to the thalamic neurons that provide stimulus-specific input to the cortex. In lightly sedated rats, we found that focal enhancement of motor cortex activity facilitated sensory-evoked responses of ...

Monoaminergic Modulation of Motor Cortex Function [PDF]
Elaboration of appropriate responses to behavioral situations rests on the ability of selecting appropriate motor outcomes in accordance to specific environmental inputs. To this end, the primary motor cortex (M1) is a key structure for the control of voluntary movements and motor skills learning.
