Putting motor resonance in perspective

Cognition, 2008
Perceiving another person's actions changes the spatial perspective people use to describe objects in a scene, possibly because seeing human action induces people to map the actions, including their spatial context, to their own body and motor representations [Lozano, S. C., Hard, B. M., & Tversky, B. (2007). Putting action in perspective.

Imitation in Infancy: Rational or Motor Resonance?

Child Development, 2011
The present study investigates the contribution of 2 mechanisms to imitation in infancy. The principle of rational action suggests that infants normatively evaluate the efficiency of observed actions. In contrast, it has been proposed that motor resonance (i.e., the mapping of others’ actions onto one’s own motor repertoire) plays ...

Subharmonic resonance in stepping motors

Proceedings of the Institution of Electrical Engineers, 1979
A study of the resonance phenomena that can occur in stepping motors operating at pulse rates above the natural frequency is described. This resonant behaviour is distinct from the dynamic instability present at much higher stepping rates. In particular, a resonance oscillation is investigated which occurs when the pulse rate is twice the natural ...

Resonance effects in stepping motors

Proceedings of the Institution of Electrical Engineers, 1977
The mechanism of resonance-induced maloperation of stepping motors is studied, and a simple analytical method is presented enabling resonance frequency bands, and the damping factors necessary to suppress resonance, to be predicted. Emphasis is placed on the determination of the equivalent linearised torque/displacement characteristic for practical use.

Magnetic resonance imaging in motor neuron disease

Journal of Neurology, 1990
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the brain was evaluated in 20 patients with motor neuron disease (MND) and in a control group of 11 healthy people. Bilateral increased signal areas of various sizes in the centrum semiovale, corona radiata, internal capsule, pedunculi of midbrain, pons, medulla and even in the frontal lobe, topographically related ...

Förster resonance energy transfer and kinesin motor proteins

Chem. Soc. Rev., 2014
Förster Resonance Energy Transfer (FRET) is the phenomenon of non-radiative transfer of electronic excitations from a donor fluorophore to an acceptor, mediated by electronic dipole-dipole coupling. The transfer rate and, as a consequence, efficiency depend non-linearly on the distance between the donor and the acceptor.

Spin connection resonance in magnetic motors

Physica B: Condensed Matter, 2007
Abstract A mechanism is proposed for rotation of magnetic assemblies by a torque consisting of the magnetic dipole moment of the assembly and a magnetic field generated from space–time in Einstein–Cartan–Evans (ECE) field theory. It is shown that when the magnetic assembly is stationary, the space–time is described by a Helmholtz wave equation in the

Resonant booster for driving ultrasonic motors

IEEE 34th Annual Conference on Power Electronics Specialist, 2003. PESC '03., 2003
Ultrasonic motors have attracted considerable attention as a new type of actuator in servo-system and the on-off controlling field, but the widely-use of USMs are limited by the control circuits with transformers. Accompanying with the equivalent circuit of the ultrasonic motors, this paper has established a driving circuit using the resonant booster ...

Grasping the pain: Motor resonance with dangerous affordances

Consciousness and Cognition, 2012
Two experiments, one on school-aged children and one on adults, explored the mechanisms underlying responses to an image prime (hand vs. control object) followed by graspable objects that were, in certain cases, dangerous. Participants were presented with different primes (a male, a female and a robotic grasping-hand; a male and a female static-hand; a
