Procedural Learning through Action Observation: Preliminary Evidence from Virtual Gardening Activity in Intellectual Disability

open access: yesBrain Sciences, 2021
Intellectual disability (ID) compromises intellectual and adaptive functioning. People with an ID show difficulty with procedural skills, with loss of autonomy in daily life.

Fractional Brownian motors and stochastic resonance [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2012
We study fluctuating tilt Brownian ratchets based on fractional subdiffusion in sticky viscoelastic media characterized by a power law memory kernel. Unlike the normal diffusion case the rectification effect vanishes in the adiabatically slow modulation limit and optimizes in a driving frequency range.

Action observation produces motor resonance in Parkinson's disease. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Neuropsychol, 2018
Observation of movement activates the observer's own motor system, influencing the performance of actions and facilitating social interaction. This motor resonance is demonstrated behaviourally through visuomotor priming, whereby response latencies are influenced by the compatibility between an intended action and an observed (task‐

A Novel Suppression Method for Low-Order Harmonics Causing Resonance of Induction Motor

open access: yesMachines, 2022
In the motor drive system of electric vehicles, there are some nonlinear factors, such as the deadtime and the conduction voltage drop of switching devices, which will generate low-order harmonics of the stator current and the torque ripple.

The role of attention in human motor resonance. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS One, 2017
Observation of others' actions evokes in primary motor cortex and spinal circuits of observers a subliminal motor resonance response, which reflects the motor program encoding observed actions. We investigated the role of attention in human motor resonance with four experimental conditions, explored in different subject groups: in the first explicit ...

Aging deteriorates the ability to discriminate the weight of an object during an action observation task

open access: yesFrontiers in Aging Neuroscience, 2023
The ability to predict the weight of objects is important for skilled and dexterous manipulation during activities of daily living. The observation of other people moving objects might represent an important source of information on object features and ...

Exercise performance and corticospinal excitability during action observation

open access: yesFrontiers in Human Neuroscience, 2016
Purpose: Observation of a model performing fast exercise improves simultaneous exercise performance, however the precise mechanism underpinning this effect is unknown.

Congruent and Incongruent Corticospinal Activations at the Level of Multiple Effectors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Motor resonance is defined as the subliminal activation of the motor system while observing actions performed by others. However, resonating with another person's actions is not always an appropriate response: In real life, people do not just imitate but

Understanding motor resonance

open access: yesSocial Neuroscience, 2011
The discovery of mirror neurons in monkeys, and the finding of motor activity during action observation in humans are generally regarded to support motor theories of action understanding. These theories take motor resonance to be essential in the understanding of observed actions and the inference of action goals.

Observing grasping actions directed to emotion-laden objects: effects upon corticospinal excitability

open access: yesFrontiers in Human Neuroscience, 2016
The motor system is recruited whenever one executes an action as well as when one observes the same action being executed by others. Although it is well established that emotion modulates the motor system, the effect of observing other individuals acting
