Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.

Subsynchronous resonance of single-cage induction motors

open access: yesIEE Proceedings B Electric Power Applications, 1981
This paper presents the results of an investigation into the subsynchronous resonance (SSR) instability of a single-cage induction motor supplied by a series capacitor compensated feeder. A great deal of insight into the mechanism of subsynchronous resonance instability is obtained from a simple equivalent circuit analysis and the discrete Fourier ...

A Pneumatically Actuated Manipulandum for Neuromotor Control Research [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) techniques have great potential for identifying which neural structures are involved in the control of goal-directed reaching movements.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Rotor resonances of high-speed permanent-magnet brushless machines [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
For high-speed machines, in particular, it is very important to accurately predict natural frequencies of the rotor at the design stage so as to minimize the likelihood of failure.

Multisensory integration and motor resonance in the primary motor cortex

open access: yesCortex
Humans are endowed with a motor system that resonates to speech sounds, but whether concurrent visual information from lip movements can improve speech perception at a motor level through multisensory integration mechanisms remains unknown. Therefore, the aim of the study was to explore behavioral and neurophysiological correlates of multisensory ...

Subsynchronous resonance of deep-bar induction motors

open access: yesIEE Proceedings B Electric Power Applications, 1981
This paper presents the results of an investigation into the subsynchronous resonance (SSR) instability of deep-bar induction motors when supplied through series capacitor compensated feeders. As in a companion study published by the same authors on single-cage induction motors, useful physical insight into SSR instability is obtained from a simple ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Motor simulation without motor expertise: enhanced corticospinal excitability in visually experienced dance spectators [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The human “mirror-system” is suggested to play a crucial role in action observation and execution, and is characterized by activity in the premotor and parietal cortices during the passive observation of movements.

Low or High-Level Motor Coding? The Role of Stimulus Complexity

open access: yesFrontiers in Human Neuroscience, 2019
Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) studies have shown that observing an action induces activity in the onlooker's motor system. In light of the muscle specificity and time-locked mirroring nature of the effect, this motor resonance has been ...
