Asiatic black bears in Russia face conservation threats such as habitat destruction and fragmentation, which exacerbate food shortages caused by crop failures. This study explores an innovative approach to rehabilitating bears that abandon hibernation in mid‐winter due to extreme exhaustion by providing supplemental food near their den sites.

Drone‐based radiotelemetry and imagery systems provide an advantage over traditional techniques for estimating survival of dependent juveniles

We used drone‐based radiotelemetry and multispectral imagery to estimate detection and survival probabilities of blue‐winged teal broods in Saskatchewan, Canada. Weekly brood survival probabilities, estimated via Cormack‐Jolly‐Seber models, increased with age and were comparable between drone methods.

Rapid scavenging of avian carcasses in the desert Southwest: Implications for mortality surveys not associated with infrastructure

We placed 214 avian carcasses in a desert environment at locations not associated with infrastructure and monitored their removal by scavengers using camera traps. We found that 211 of the 214 carcasses were scavenged and median persistence time was 1.53 days. None of the predictor variables were informative of carcass persistence times.

Advantageous snow conditions—in terms of snow depth and density—are among the most important features of the winter landscape for two apex predators, regardless of hunting strategy. In a warming climate, the knock‐on effects of a diminishing snowpack may reduce the hunting success of multiple large carnivore species.

This study decomposes the effects of an invasive parasite on natural communities of fish in Trinidad, revealing the direct, indirect, and context dependence of the invasion on host demographic rates and community structure.
