Note sur le comportement des gorilles de montagne maintenus en captivité à Tshibati, Zaïre [PDF]

open access: yesTropicultura, 1990
Some notes concerning the behaviour of mountain's gonflas maintained in captivity at Tshibati (Zaire). This work presents some observations about mountain gorillas behaviour in captivity at Tshibati.

Demographic buffering in natural populations: A multi‐level perspective

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, Volume 95, Issue 8, Page 1298-1310, August 2026.
We introduce a multi‐level framework that unites stochastic elasticities with nonlinear selection to test demographic buffering. Applying it across mammals reveals a key insight: ecological robustness to variability often decouples from evolutionary constraint, reshaping how we understand resilience under environmental stochasticity.

Rethinking Spatial Prioritisation for Primate Conservation in an Unprotected Intact Forest Landscape in the Gulf of Guinea

open access: yesAnimal Conservation, Volume 29, Issue 4, Page 364-378, August 2026.
This study highlights the importance of the unprotected Yabassi Key Biodiversity Area, Cameroon, for primate conservation in the Gulf of Guinea biodiversity hotspot. We modelled primate distribution patterns and found that historically overlooked parts of the landscape have high species richness and are critical for some threatened species.

Leadership Under Risk: Male Vervet Monkeys' (Chlorocebus pygerythrus) Roles in Group Progression Across Potentially High‐Risk Terrain

open access: yesEthology, Volume 132, Issue 8, Page 544-556, August 2026.
Male vervet monkeys were more likely to lead group progressions than females or juveniles, especially during potentially riskier crossing situations, i.e., rivers. Dominant males who had not yet sired offspring were the most likely to lead progressions.

Homozygosity Accumulated Through Genetic Drift and Inbreeding Underpins High Mutation Load in an Endangered Beluga Whale Population

open access: yesMolecular Ecology, Volume 35, Issue 16, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Isolated populations are susceptible to decline through the accumulation of deleterious mutations and inbreeding depression. As a consequence of habitat alteration, isolated populations are also expected to become increasingly prevalent.

Comparative Oligo‐FISH Mapping Illuminates Chromosomal Evolution Among Rutaceae Species Diverged Over 50 Million Years

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 41, 22 July 2026.
Oligonucleotide‐based fluorescence in situ hybridization probes were developed in the model citrus species Citrus maxima. These probes were applied to comparative karyotyping across 14 species in the Rutaceae family. This analysis revealed chromosomal evolution in lineages that diverged from Citrus nearly 52 million years ago.

Introduction: The Political Economy of Tourism

open access: yesThe Political Quarterly, Volume 97, Issue 3, Page 367-372, July/September 2026.
Abstract Tourism is one of the fastest‐growing internationally traded service industries. The articles in this special collection examine the circumstances under which it can act as a driver of sustainable, equitably shared growth. The introduction argues that tourism offers a promising path to regional development—not only in southern Europe and the ...

Treeline Provides a Unified Strategy for Optimising Phylogenetic Trees Under Alternative Criteria

open access: yesMolecular Ecology Resources, Volume 26, Issue 5, July 2026.
ABSTRACT The choice of optimality criterion is a key consideration in phylogenetic studies. Recent work challenges the notion that more computationally demanding optimisation objectives result in better phylogenetic trees. This finding underscores the importance of comparing trees across optimisation objectives in addition to different models of ...

Flexible changes in mountain gorilla (Gorilla beringei beringei) ranging patterns in response to snare encounters

open access: yesGlobal Ecology and Conservation
Human activities, including hunting within protected areas, are reshaping the spatiotemporal behavior of wildlife by creating anthropogenic landscapes of fear. In nonhuman primates, these landscapes can drive flexible alterations in movement that reflect
