Touchscreen-based cognitive tasks reveal age-related impairment in a primate aging model, the grey mouse lemur (Microcebus murinus) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Mouse lemurs are suggested to represent promising novel non-human primate models for aging research. However, standardized and cross-taxa cognitive testing methods are still lacking.

Mouse lemurs’ and degraded habitat [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
AbstractMadagascar is known for its unique biodiversity including its endemic primates, the lemurs. This biodiversity is threatened by deforestation, forest degradation and anthropogenic disturbances. Several mouse lemurs (genus Microcebus) have been shown to cope with habitat disturbances and degradation.

Revision of Madagascar's Dwarf Lemurs (Cheirogaleidae:Cheirogaleus): Designation of Species, Candidate Species Status and Geographic Boundaries Based on Molecular and Morphological Data [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The genus Cheirogaleus, the dwarf lemurs, is a radiation of strepsirrhine primates endemic to the island of Madagascar. The dwarf lemurs are taxonomically grouped in the family Cheirogaleidae (Infraorder: Lemuriformes) along with the genera Microcebus,

A 24-Year Record of Female Reproductive Dynamics in Two Sympatric Mouse Lemur Species in Northwestern Madagascar

open access: yesInternational journal of primatology, 2021
Seasonal reproduction is widespread among primates but the degree of reproductive synchrony and plasticity can vary, even between closely related species.

Shortest known prion protein allele in highly BSE-susceptible lemurs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
We describe the shortest prion protein allele known to date. Surprisingly, it is found as a polymorphism exactly in a species (prosimian lemurs) which seems highly susceptible to oral infection with BSE-derived prions. The truncation of the prion protein

Mice and primates use distinct strategies for visual segmentation

open access: yeseLife, 2023
The rodent visual system has attracted great interest in recent years due to its experimental tractability, but the fundamental mechanisms used by the mouse to represent the visual world remain unclear.

Mouse Lemur Microscopic MRI Brain Atlas

open access: yesNeuroImage, 1994
We present a three-dimensional (3D) digital atlas of a mouse lemur head at 60-micron cubic voxel isotropic resolution. It was constructed from a 3D proton magnetic resonance image (MRI) acquired at 500 MHz. It shows views of 3D volume-rendering and movies of contiguous 2D plane cuts in three orthogonal directions.

Age-associated cerebral atrophy in mouse lemur primates [PDF]

open access: yesNeurobiology of Aging, 2011
We assessed the regional brain atrophy in mouse lemur primates from 4.7T T2-weighted magnetic resonance images. Thirty animals aged from 1.9 to 11.3 years were imaged. Sixty-one percent of the 23 animals older than 3 years involved in the study displayed an atrophy process.

On-going frontal alpha rhythms are dominant in passive state and desynchronize in active state in adult gray mouse lemurs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The gray mouse lemur (Microcebus murinus) is considered a useful primate model for translational research. In the framework of IMI PharmaCog project (Grant Agreement n°115009, www.pharmacog.org), we tested the hypothesis that spectral ...

Whole brain mapping of glutamate distribution in adult and old primates at 11.7T

open access: yesNeuroImage, 2022
Glutamate is the amino acid with the highest cerebral concentration. It plays a central role in brain metabolism. It is also the principal excitatory neurotransmitter in the brain and is involved in multiple cognitive functions.
