Computational Intelligence Approach to Improve the Classification Accuracy of Brain Neoplasm in MRI Data [PDF]
Automatic detection of brain neoplasm in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is gaining importance in many medical diagnostic applications. This report presents two improvements for brain neoplasm detection in MRI data: an advanced preprocessing technique is proposed to improve the area of interest in MRI data and a hybrid technique using Convolutional ...

A Novel Face-tracking Mouth Controller and its Application to Interacting with Bioacoustic Models [PDF]
We describe a simple, computationally light, real-time system for tracking the lower face and extracting information about the shape of the open mouth from a video sequence. The system allows unencumbered control of audio synthesis modules by the action of the mouth.

Mathematical models for order of mutation problem in myeloproliferative neoplasm: non-additivity and non-commutativity [PDF]
In some patients of myeloproliferative neoplasm, two genetic mutations can be found: JAK2 V617F and TET2. When one mutation is present or not, the other mutation has different effects on regulating gene expressions. Besides, when both mutations are present, the order of occurrence might make a difference.

Order-of-mutation effects on cancer progression: models for myeloproliferative neoplasm [PDF]
We develop a modeling framework for cancer progression that distinguishes the order of two possible mutations. Recent observations and information on myeloproliferative neoplasms are analyzed within our framework. In some patients with myeloproliferative neoplasms, two genetic mutations can be found, JAK2 V617F and TET2.

Trends of oral cavity, oropharyngeal and laryngeal cancer incidence in Scotland (1975 - 2012) - a socioeconomic perspective [PDF]
Aim: To examine current incidence trends (1975–2012) of oral cavity (OCC), oropharyngeal (OPC) and laryngeal cancer in Scotland by socioeconomic status (SES). Methods: We included all diagnosed cases of OCC (C00.3-C00.9, C02-C06 excluding C2.4),
