Moving and reactive boundary conditions in moving-mesh hydrodynamics [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2020
ABSTRACT We outline the methodology of implementing moving boundary conditions into the moving-mesh code manga. The motion of our boundaries is reactive to hydrodynamic and gravitational forces. We discuss the hydrodynamics of a moving boundary as well as the modifications to our hydrodynamic and gravity solvers.

A variational approach to the moving contact line hydrodynamics

open access: yes, 2006
In immiscible two-phase flows, contact line denotes the intersection of the fluid-fluid interface with the solid wall. When one fluid displaces the other, the contact line moves along the wall.

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

Fermions between moving boundaries

open access: yesPhysics Letters B, 1987
Abstract We consider the problem of a quantized spin 1 2 field confined in a region between boundaries with an externally imposed motion. Using the bag-like boundary condition we compute the particle creation in the two-dimensional massless case and we discuss some aspects related to the subject of bosonization.

AAA+ protein unfoldases—the Moirai of the proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
AAA+ unfoldases are essential molecular motors that power protein degradation and disaggregation. This review integrates recent cryo‐electron microscopy (cryo‐EM) structures and single‐molecule biophysical data to reconcile competing models of substrate translocation.

A Lagrangian particle model for one-dimensional transient pipe flow with moving boundary

open access: yesEngineering Applications of Computational Fluid Mechanics
For simulating fluid transients in pipelines with moving water-air interface, a one-dimensional Lagrangian particle model with second-order accuracy in both space and time is proposed.

Moving computational multi-domain method for modelling the flow interaction of multiple moving objects

open access: yesAdvances in Aerodynamics, 2022
This study proposes a method for modelling the flow interaction of multiple moving objects where the flow field variables are communicated between multiple separate moving computational domains.

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

A Stefan problem for composite materials with an arbitrary number of moving phase-transition boundaries

open access: yesУчёные записки Казанского университета: Серия Физико-математические науки
A Stefan problem of heat transfer in semi-infinite bodies with an arbitrary number of unsteady moving boundaries during phase transitions was solved. Such problems arise when composite materials are heated at high temperatures, causing the binding agents
