MPEG-2 to MPEG-4 transcoding

Proceedings of Workshop and Exhibition on MPEG-4 (Cat. No.01EX511), 2002
The MPEG-2 video compression standard is successfully adapted in the DVD and digital TV broadcast industries. The new MPEG-4 standard has much broader and ambitious perspective to support high and low bit-rate multimedia applications on existing and future networks. MPEG-4 aims to complement MPEG-2, not override it.

Using MPEG-7 and MPEG-21 for personalizing video

IEEE Multimedia, 2004
As multimedia content has proliferated over the past several years, users have begun to expect that content be easily accessed according to their own preferences. One of the most effective ways to do this is through using the MPEG-7 and MPEG-21 standards, which can help address the issues associated with designing a video personalization and ...

An efficient transcoding from MPEG-2 to MPEG-1

Proceedings 2001 International Conference on Image Processing (Cat. No.01CH37205), 2002
This paper proposes a fast and efficient transcoding algorithm from MPEG-2 video to MPEG-1 video where spatial resolution reduction is involved. We use quantization parameters along with motion information of the incoming MPEG-2 video bitstream to estimate the motion vectors for MPEG-1 transcoding without any additional motion estimation process. Since

MPEG column: 116th MPEG meeting

ACM SIGMultimedia Records, 2017
At its 116th meeting, MPEG successfully organised a workshop on its 5-year standardisation roadmap. Various industry representatives presented their views and reflected on the need for standards for new services and applications, specifically in the area of immersive media. The results of the workshop (roadmap, presentations) and the planned phases for

MPEG analyzer a tool for visualizing MPEG encoding characteristics

Proceedings of the 18th International Workshop on Network and Operating Systems Support for Digital Audio and Video, 2008
We present an open source tool called MPEG analyzer that is able to visualize various MPEG-2 encoding characteristics while playing a video stream. Our tool has been developed during a student lab and is intended to support teachers and lecturers in teaching the functioning of MPEG-2 encoding techniques.

MPEG-J: Java application engine in MPEG-4

2000 IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems (ISCAS), 2000
MPEG-4 Systems version 1 defines the presentation engine for the MPEG-4 terminal. MPEG-J is the Java based application engine defined in the version 2 of the MPEG-4 standard. This facilitates programmatic control as opposed to the parametric control provided by the presentation engine. MPEG-J refers to the collection of Java APIs defined by the Systems

Regularized dequantizer for MPEG

2000 Digest of Technical Papers. International Conference on Consumer Electronics. Nineteenth in the Series (Cat. No.00CH37102), 2000
Based on regularization principles, we propose a new dequantization scheme for MPEG. The new approach drastically reduces blocking artifacts without smoothing the decoded image. Most discrete cosine transform (DCT) based video coding suffer from blocking artifacts where boundaries of 8/spl times/8 DCT blocks become visible on decoded images.

Continuity and synchronization in MPEG

IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications, 1996
The requirement of continuous retrieval, and the presence of multiple media streams whose display must proceed in a mutually synchronized manner are the distinguishing features that are unique to digital multimedia. In the emerging international multimedia encoding standard MPEG, continuity and synchronization are handled at different layers of the ...
