Quality of life and psychological disorders in Egyptian patients with chronic lung diseases: Clinico-physiological correlation

open access: yesEgyptian Journal of Chest Disease and Tuberculosis, 2014
Objectives: Chronic lung diseases lead to impairment of daily activities, work and quality of life. The aim of this work was to assess the quality of life, depression and anxiety in Egyptian patients with chronic lung diseases. Patients and methods: This

The importance of both setting and intensity of physical activity in relation to non-clinical anxiety and depression [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Physical activity is associated with good physical and mental health. Current recommendations suggest that people should achieve 30 minutes of moderate-intensity activity most days of the week to gain health benefits.

PARK(ing) time–How park deficiency affects the biological clock in a Drosophila model of Parkinson's disease

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Drosophila park mutants serve as a model for Parkinson's disease. We used this strain to investigate the connection between oxidative stress and the circadian clock mechanism. We showed that increased oxidative stress affects the physiology of pacemaker cells, disrupting their daily structural plasticity. Lack of rhythmic signaling from pacemaker cells

Performance Analysis and Scaling Law of MRC/MRT Relaying with CSI Error in Massive MIMO Systems

open access: yesCoRR, 2016
This work provides a comprehensive scaling law and performance analysis for multi-user massive MIMO relay networks, where the relay is equipped with massive antennas and uses MRC/MRT for low-complexity processing. CSI error is considered. First, a sum-rate lower bound is derived which manifests the effect of system parameters including the numbers of ...

WISDOM: history and early demise - was it inevitable?

open access: yes, 2002
In 1989, the UK Medical Research Council (MRC) agreed that, if feasible, a randomized controlled trial to assess the long-term risks and benefits of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) was a priority.

Hijacking emergency granulopoiesis: Neutrophil ontogeny and reprogramming in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Neutrophils are highly plastic innate immune cells; their functions in cancer extend beyond the tumour microenvironment. This Review summarises current understanding of neutrophil maturation and heterogeneity and highlights tumour‐induced granulopoiesis as a systemic programme that expands immature, immunosuppressive neutrophils via tumour‐derived ...

Integrated Field Surveying and Land Surface Quantitative Analysis to Assess Landslide Proneness in the Conero Promontory Rocky Coast (Italy)

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
Rock slopes involved in extensive landslide processes are often characterized by complex morphodynamics acting at different scales of space and time, responsible for different evolutionary scenarios.

Randomized controlled trial of pulmonary rehabilitation in severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease patients, stratified with the MRC dyspnoea scale [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Respiratory Journal, 1998
This study tested the hypothesis that severity of respiratory disability may affect the outcome of pulmonary rehabilitation. In this randomized, controlled study, 126 patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) were stratified for dyspnoea using the Medical Research Council (MRC) dyspnoea score into MRC3/4 (Moderate) (n=66) and MRC 5 ...

Loss of IGF‐1R impairs DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin leading to defective end‐joining

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
IGF‐1R promotes radioresistance by facilitating DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin, enabling non‐homologous end‐joining (NHEJ) repair of double‐strand breaks. Inhibition or loss of IGF‐1R disrupts this recruitment to damage sites, driving compensatory reliance on microhomology‐mediated end‐joining (MMEJ) repair.
