The Safety of MRI

JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1989
To the Editor. — The Food and Drug Administration1recently reclassified the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner from a class III to a class II device and issued revised guidelines for the safe clinical use of this imaging modality. Along with the reclassification, the previously recommended conservative levels of exposure to the electromagnetic ...

MRI of ranulas

Neuroradiology, 2000
We reviewed the MRI of 20 patients with a ranula (8 simple and 12 plunging) and ten with other cystic masses in the floor of the mouth and/or suprahyoid portion of the neck (three haemangiomas, two neuromas, one monomorphic adenoma, one lipoma, two lateral cervical cysts and one dermoid cyst).

MRI of cholangiocarcinoma

Journal of Magnetic Resonance Imaging, 2014
Cholangiocarcinomas are the second most common primary hepatobiliary tumors after hepatocellular carcinomas. They can be categorized either based on their location (intrahepatic/perihilar/extrahepatic distal) or their growth characteristics (mass‐forming/periductal‐infiltrating/intraductal) because they exhibit varied presentations and outcomes based ...

MRI in thorotrastosis

Clinical Imaging, 1995
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT) were performed in four patients with thorotrastosis. On CT scan, Thorotrast (thorium oxide) deposition was shown as high-density areas in the liver and spleen and the abdominal lymph nodes. These deposits were not found on MRIs. Splenic volume was significantly small due to atrophy.

MRI of the teeth

The British Journal of Radiology, 2002
The teeth and periapical structures were demonstrated on MRI using an open MRI system. There was good visualization of normal structures including crowns of teeth, pulp chambers and the neurovascular bundle of the inferior dental nerve. Dental and periapical pathology was shown.

MRI and surveillance

Current Opinion in Urology, 2012
In this review, we summarize the recent advances in modern imaging, particularly multiparametric (mp) MRI and its role in the selection and monitoring of patients on active surveillance.Current diagnostic pathway has some limitations in selecting patients with insignificant prostate cancer for active surveillance.

Noise in MRI

Magnetic Resonance in Medicine, 1996
AbstractThis study analyzes the signal‐to‐noise ratio (SNR) in magnetic resonance imaging. The factors that determine the SNR are derived starting from basic principles. The SNR, for a given object, is shown to be proportional to the voxel volume and the square root of the acquisition time. The noise generated by the body is derived using a cylindrical
