Nuclear organization of pre-mRNA processing

Current Opinion in Cell Biology, 1993
Recent studies have suggested that small nuclear ribonucleoprotein particles (snRNPs), non-snRNP splicing factors, and several heterogeneous nuclear RNP proteins change their organization within the cell in response to transcriptional activity. Several of the RNA substrates with which these factors interact have been shown to localize in tracks that ...

Co-transcriptional pre-mRNA processing

2015
This chapter discusses the pre-mRNA processing events that occur co-transcriptionally. It covers the synthesis of the 7-methyl guanosine 5? cap, pre-mRNA splicing, and the formation of the 3? end of an mRNA by cleavage and polyadenylation. It also considers the connections that exist between chromatin structure and pre-mRNA processing, including the ...

mRNA Decay and Processing

2014
Since there have been several extensive reviews of mRNA decay within the last several years, this chapter focuses on issues that have not been completely resolved. These include the importance of RNA structural elements in mRNA decay, the existence and function of multiprotein mRNA decay complexes, the role of polyadenylation in mRNA decay, the ...

Processing of Adenovirus Nuclear RNA to mRNA

1981
Publisher Summary The mechanism, as well as the regulation, of the biogenesis of adenovirus messenger RNA (mRNA) has been the subject of intensive research over the past several years, principally because it provides an excellent model for the events that occur in the uninfected mammalian cell.

Proteome Analysis of Chloroplast mRNA Processing and Degradation

Journal of Proteome Research, 2006
Chloroplasts have a complex enzymatic machinery to adjust the relative half-life of their mRNAs to environmental signals. Soluble protein extracts from spinach (Spinacia oleracea L.) chloroplasts that correctly reproduce in vitro the differential mRNA stability observed in vivo were analyzed using shotgun proteomics to identify the proteins that are ...

mRNA processing and genomic instability

Nature Structural & Molecular Biology, 2005
A new study adds to our understanding of the interconnection between different nuclear processes by showing that a 'classical' metazoan precursor mRNA–processing factor functions to prevent transcription-associated genomic instability.

Chloroplast mRNA 3? end maturation is biochemically distinct from prokaryotic mRNA processing

Plant Molecular Biology, 1989
We have characterized a chloroplast processing activity that catalyzes the conversion of the plastid cytochrome b6/f subunit IV (pet D) mRNA 3' end precursor to the mature RNA possessing a 3' inverted repeat (IR). In a chloroplast soluble protein extract, the activity requires Mg2+ or Mn2+, but not K+.

Nuclear Pre-mRna Processing in Higher Plants

1994
Publisher Summary This chapter focuses on nuclear pre-mRNA splicing in plants, with emphasis on maize. It discusses the salient points of nuclear intron splicing in yeast and animals. Then it reviews the literature on small nuclear RNAs and plant intron splicing, and present a working model for plant intron recognition.
