Methicillin resistente Staphylococcus aureus sind resistent gegen alle β-Laktamantibiotika, in mehr als 90% auch gegen Ciprofloxacin und in 50 — 60% auch gegen andere Antibiotika mit Ausnahme der Glykopeptide, von Quinupristin/Dalfopristin und von Linezolid. Glycopeptid-intermediar empfindliche S. aureus (ISA) sind bisher in Deutschland selten.
