Northward-propagating nighttime medium-scale traveling ionospheric disturbances observed with SuperDARN Hokkaido HF radar and GEONET [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We report on the characteristics of nighttime medium-scale traveling ionospheric disturbances (MSTIDs) propagating northward observed with the SuperDARN Hokkaido HF radar, which has a field of view to the north of Japan, and occasionally with the GNSS ...

Generation of Quasi‐Periodic Dayside Medium Scale Traveling Ionospheric Disturbances (MSTIDs) by Intermittent Lobe Reconnection

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters
The medium‐scale traveling ionospheric disturbances (MSTIDs) can be excited by many sources. Among those magnetic reconnection has been proposed as a potential driver for dayside MSTIDs, but direct evidence has been limited. Using ground‐based radar data

Correlation of Rate of TEC Index and Spread F over European Ionosondes

open access: yesAtmosphere
One of the most popular indices for monitoring the occurrence and intensity of ionospheric L-band irregularities is the Rate of TEC Index (ROTI). Due to low TEC in the mid-latitude ionosphere, ROTI has received significantly less attention than the ...

Investigation into the earliest generation of medium-scale traveling ionospheric disturbances with electrodynamic signatures using dense GNSS observations over Japan

open access: yesEarth, Planets and Space
Understanding the earliest formation stages of medium-scale traveling ionospheric disturbances (MSTIDs) with electrodynamic signatures (commonly referred to as nighttime MSTIDs) is essential for comprehending their full development.

Properties of Medium-Scale Traveling Ionospheric Disturbances Observed over Mexico during Quiet Solar Activity

open access: yesAtmosphere
We present a statistical study of some physical properties of medium-scale traveling ionospheric disturbances (MSTIDs) registered over the Mexican territory during 2018 and 2019 (solar minimum).

MSTID forecasting software codes delivered by the T-FORS project

open access: yes
This report provides a description of the codes that estimate the climatological pattern of MSTIDs, developed in the T-FORS project. The MSTID climatology is based on the detrended TEC data and can be used as a long-term forecasting tool. The validation confirms the expected diurnal and seasonal variability of the physical phenomenon.

Studies of traveling ionospheric disturbances using rapid-run ionosonde, EISCAT radar and GPS TEC

open access: yes
The main topic of this thesis is Traveling Ionospheric Disturbances using multiple instruments at high and low latitudes. In high latitudes the work mainly focuses on the occurrence behavior of TIDs and its subsequent causing mechanisms as well as the ...

Seasonal Propagation Characteristics of MSTIDs Observed at High Latitudes Over Central Alaska Using the Poker Flat Incoherent Scatter Radar

open access: yes, 2018
Near‐continuous electron density measurements obtained over a ∼3 year period, 2010–2013, using the Poker Flat Incoherent Scatter Radar (PFISR) in central Alaska (69°N, 147°W) have been analyzed to quantify the properties of over 650 high‐latitude medium ...
