MT1-MMP recruits the ER-Golgi SNARE Bet1 for efficient MT1-MMP transport to the plasma membrane [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Cell Biology, 2019
Metastasis is a major cause of cancer-related death. Membrane type 1–matrix metalloproteinase (MT1-MMP) is a critical protease for local invasion and metastasis. MT1-MMP is synthesized in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and transported in vesicles to invadopodia, specialized subdomains of the plasma membrane, through secretory and endocytic recycling ...

Melatonin MT1 receptors as a target for the psychopharmacology of bipolar disorder: A translational study

open access: yesPharmacological Research, 2023
The treatment of bipolar disorder (BD) still remains a challenge. Melatonin (MLT), acting through its two receptors MT1 and MT2, plays a key role in regulating circadian rhythms which are dysfunctional in BD.

Structural basis of the ligand binding and signaling mechanism of melatonin receptors

open access: yesNature Communications, 2022
Melatonin receptors (MT1 and MT2) are the targets for melatonin, the major neurohormone involved in circadian rhythm and sleep regulation. Here the authors describe the structures of 2-iodomelatonin and ramelteon bound MT1–Gi and MT2-Gi, revealing that ...

MT1 Melatonin Receptor Expression in Warthin’s Tumor

open access: yesPathology & Oncology Research, 2012
We contribute the first immunohistochemical study of MT1 melatonin receptor in Warthin's tumor and normal parotid gland. All 14 Warthin's tumors studied showed intense cytoplasmic positivity for MT1 receptor in all cylindrical epithelial cells lining spaces and a less intense positivity in basal cells.

Recombinant human melatonin receptor MT1 isolated in mixed detergents shows pharmacology similar to that in mammalian cell membranes. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
The human melatonin MT1 receptor-belonging to the large family of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs)-plays a key role in circadian rhythm regulation and is notably involved in sleep disorders and depression.

The ubiquitin-specific protease 8 antagonizes melatonin-induced endocytic degradation of MT1 receptor to promote lung adenocarcinoma growth

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Research, 2022
Introduction: The human genome encodes two melatonin receptors (MT1 and MT2) that relay melatonin signals to cellular interior. Accumulating evidence has linked melatonin to multiple health benefits, among which its anticancer effects have become well ...

Regulation of pituitary MT1 melatonin receptor expression by gonadotrophin-releasing hormone (GnRH) and early growth response factor-1 (Egr-1): in vivo and in vitro studies. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Melatonin receptor expression exhibits profound developmental changes through poorly understood mechanisms. In mammals, a current model suggests that pubertal reactivation of gonadotrophin-releasing hormone (GnRH) secretion down-regulates MT1 melatonin ...

Modulation of RECK levels in Xenopus A6 cells: effects on MT1-MMP, MMP-2 and pERK levels

open access: yesJournal of Biological Research - Thessaloniki, 2019
Background MT1-MMP is a cell-surface enzyme whose regulation of pro-MMP-2 and ERK activation position it as a key facilitator of ECM remodelling and cell migration.

Membrane-type 1 Matrix Metalloproteinase Modulates Tissue Homeostasis by a Non-proteolytic Mechanism

open access: yesiScience, 2020
Summary: Membrane-type 1 matrix metalloproteinase (MT1-MMP, MMP-14), a transmembrane proteinase with a short cytoplasmic tail, is a major effector of extracellular matrix remodeling.

Quantitative FRET imaging to visualize the invasiveness of live breast cancer cells. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) remodel tumor microenvironment and promote cancer metastasis. Among the MMP family proteases, the proteolytic activity of the pro-tumorigenic and pro-metastatic membrane-type 1 (MT1)-MMP constitutes a promising and ...
