The Constant MTF Interpolator a resampling technique with minimal MTF losses
2016 IEEE Signal Processing in Medicine and Biology Symposium (SPMB), 2016The geometric remapping of pixel values during the processing of digital imagery, such as magnification, warping and registration, can significantly affect the final image quality. Many medical imaging systems include a resampler/interpolator, such as bicubic, as part of their processing, that acts as a variable low pass filter.

In this chapter, we develop the mathematical relationships between the data and the MTF for the point-spread function (PSF), line-spread function (LSF), and edge-spread function (ESF). One item of notation in this section is that we use * to denote a one-dimensional convolution and ** to denote a two-dimensional convolution.

An MTF method immune to aliasing
Medical Physics, 1985The variance derived from the images of cyclic bar patterns can be used to determine the modulation transfer function (MTF) of an imaging system. Unlike most MTF methods, it is applicable even when the imaging system undersamples the test object and generates aliasing errors.

SPOT MTF Performance Evaluation
SPIE Proceedings, 1986The SPOT MTF is tested during the post-launch performance assessment using a photointerpretative method. To this end an image catalog is prepared before launch. This catalog is based on aerial high resolution photographs of 20 cities in the Southern part of France in the panchromatic band.

Characterization of Printer MTF
Journal of Imaging Science and Technology, 2006We develop a comprehensive procedure for characterizing the modulation transfer function (MTF) of a digital printer. Especially designed test pages consisting of a series of patches, each with a different one-dimensional (1D) sinusoidal modulation, enable measurement of the dependence of the MTF on spatial frequency, bias point, modulation amplitude ...

Focal Spots: I. MTF Separability
Investigative Radiology, 1977Focal spot models have been based on the implicit assumption that the two dimensional MTF is mathematically separable in the form P(u, v) = P(u)P(v). Experimental results for nine foci are presented. It is concluded that the assumption of separability can be used without introducing a large error.

After we consider the fundamental MTF contributions arising from the optics, the sensor array, and the electronics, we must look at the MTF contributions arising from image motion, image vibration, atmospheric turbulence, and aerosol scattering. We briefly consider a first-order analysis of these additional contributions to system MTF; our heuristic ...

The staring array is the most popular design today. The major components are the optics, detector, imaging processing (discussed in Chapter 9, Image processing), flat-panel display, and the observer. Environmental effects include line-of-sight motion and atmospheric turbulence (discussed in Chapter 6, Environmental MTFs).

The MTF of a rectangular detector is separable in Cartesian coordinates, but is not separable in polar coordinates. The combination of the detector MTF and the optics MTF is not separable in either polar or Cartesian coordinates. Based on the point spread function analysis, the errors associated with separability are considered small, so most analysts ...
