Fault-Tolerant Adaptive Parallel and Distributed Simulation

open access: yes, 2016
Discrete Event Simulation is a widely used technique that is used to model and analyze complex systems in many fields of science and engineering. The increasingly large size of simulation models poses a serious computational challenge, since the time ...

A comparison of numerical splitting-based methods for Markovian dependability and performability models [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
Iterative numerical methods are an important ingredient for the solution of continuous time Markov dependability models of fault-tolerant systems. In this paper we make a numerical comparison of several splitting-based iterative methods. We consider the

An EM‐based likelihood inference for degradation data analysis using gamma process

open access: yesApplied Stochastic Models in Business and Industry, Volume 41, Issue 3, May/June 2025.
Abstract The gamma process is widely used for the lifetime estimation of highly reliable products that degrade over time. Typically, incomplete likelihood is used to estimate the model parameters and the reliability estimates for the first passage time distribution of the gamma process; however, it (i.e., pseudo method) does not consider interval ...

Stochastic Modeling and Time‐Frequency Analysis for Predictive Maintenance of Automotive Suspension Systems

open access: yesApplied Stochastic Models in Business and Industry, Volume 41, Issue 3, May/June 2025.
ABSTRACT This article presents a real‐time predictive maintenance model of vehicle suspensions based on vibration signal analysis. The study is grounded in the observation that suspension wear and failure are primarily driven by cumulative stresses and external shocks encountered during vehicle operation.

Redundancy and Aging of Efficient Multidimensional MDS-Parity Protected Distributed Storage Systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The effect of redundancy on the aging of an efficient Maximum Distance Separable (MDS) parity--protected distributed storage system that consists of multidimensional arrays of storage units is explored.

Reliability and Availability Analysis of a Two-Unit Cold Standby System with Imperfect Switching

open access: yesAxioms
This paper presents a stochastic analysis of a two-unit cold standby system incorporating imperfect switching mechanisms. Each unit operates in one of three states: normal, partial failure, or total failure.

Implementing an Operational Cloud‐Based Now‐ and Forecasting System for Space Weather Ground Effects in the UK

open access: yesSpace Weather, Volume 23, Issue 5, May 2025.
Abstract The enhanced variation of the magnetic field during severe to extreme geomagnetic storms induces a large geoelectric field in the subsurface. Grounded infrastructure can be susceptible to geomagnetically induced currents (GICs) during these events.

ANALYSIS OF SPARE PARTS REQUIREMENTS BASED ON THE FAILURE RATE OF A COMPONENT USING THE POISSON PROCESS METHOD IN A CASE STUDY AT PT. XYZ

open access: yesRekayasa Mesin
This study presents the conclusions drawn from previous data analysis, highlighting several significant key findings. Firstly, an evaluation using a risk matrix revealed that the critical subsystem for the CC 206 Locomotive is the Diesel subsystem, which

Reliability Evaluation for Clustered WSNs under Malware Propagation

open access: yesSensors, 2016
We consider a clustered wireless sensor network (WSN) under epidemic-malware propagation conditions and solve the problem of how to evaluate its reliability so as to ensure efficient, continuous, and dependable transmission of sensed data from sensor ...

A New Transformer‐Less Buck‐Boost Converter With Reliability Assessment Using the Improved Markov Model

open access: yesEngineering Reports, Volume 7, Issue 3, March 2025.
The converter has continuous input current, cubic gain, reduced components, and a simple structure. The converter's 200 W hardware prototype verifies the converter's efficiency of 95.20% while it delivers 100 W output power, making it feasible for low‐ to medium‐power applications.
