Mucociliary Clearance in Adult Asthma

American Review of Respiratory Disease, 1992
Severe impairment of mucociliary clearance (MC) in hospitalized asthmatics has recently been demonstrated in peripheral and central airways. MC was also shown to improve with clinical recovery and hospital discharge (2). In the present study, we measure MC in chronic, stable asthma in subjects with a wide range of obstruction to see if MC was related ...

Nasal Mucociliary Clearance Under Various Conditions

Acta Oto-Laryngologica, 1983
We applied the tagged-particle method or the saccharin method or both to the nasal mucociliary clearance. There was no effect of ageing on the transport time of saccharin in control subjects of ages under 60, and 70% of control subjects of ages more than 60 had the same transport time as that obtained in younger control subjects.

Mucociliary Clearance in the Trachea

Clinics in Chest Medicine, 1986
Tracheal mucociliary clearance is governed by the interplay between ciliary activity and secretory functions of the epithelium. These functions are altered transiently by various physiologic and injurious stimuli, and chronically in asthma, chronic bronchitis, cystic fibrosis, and other forms of airway disease.

Nasal mucociliary clearance after radiation therapy

The Laryngoscope, 1995
AbstractIrradiation has been demonstrated to cause decreased mucociliary clearance in animal models. We sought to verify this effect clinically by using the saccharin transport test to evaluate nasal mucociliary clearance in 9 patients previously treated with radiation therapy to the nasal cavity.

Mucociliary Clearance Following Segmental Tracheal Reversal

The Laryngoscope, 1996
AbstractCiliated tracheal epithelium is arranged in a polarized pattern oriented according to the inferior‐superior axis of the trachea and is responsible for the transport of mucus toward the larynx. In this study, ciliary beat orientation and the influence of external factors on mucociliary clearance direction were studied in rabbit inverted cervical

Pulmonary Mucociliary Clearance in Cystic Fibrosis

New England Journal of Medicine, 1973
Abstract Pulmonary clearance was examined by measurement of the rate of removal of a 99mTc-albumin aerosol (aerodynamic mass median diameter 3 μ) in 13 children with cystic fibrosis. Lung retention of radioactive label was monitored with a scintillation camera interfaced to a data-storage and retrieval system. The results were compared to those of nine

Nasal mucociliary clearance in adenotonsillar hypertrophy

The Indian Journal of Pediatrics, 2000
The nasal mucociliary clearance time was studied using Andersen saccharin method in 50 normal children and 50 age and sex matched patients of adenotonsillar hypertrophy, which was repeated one month after adenotonsillectomy. The normal mucociliary clearance time in healthy children was found to be 8.55 +/- 2.11 minutes.

Volatile anesthetics and mucociliary clearance.

Minerva anestesiologica, 2008
The aim of this prospective, randomized, double blind study was to evaluate the possible modification of in vivo nasal mucociliary clearance by three different volatile agents: sevoflurane, isoflurane and desflurane, following intravenous induction and tracheal intubation.Following institutional approval and informed consent, 60 patients scheduled for ...

Mucociliary clearance in pulmonary vascular disease

Annals of Nuclear Medicine, 1988
The mucociliary clearance function was studied by radioaerosol inhalation lung cinescintigraphy and its quantification in 8 patients with pulmonary vascular diseases; pulmonary embolism, 5 cases, and right pulmonary artery hypoplasia, pulmonary arteriovenous fistulas, aortitis syndrome, 1 case each.
