Pulmonary Mucociliary Clearance in Cystic Fibrosis
New England Journal of Medicine, 1973Abstract Pulmonary clearance was examined by measurement of the rate of removal of a 99mTc-albumin aerosol (aerodynamic mass median diameter 3 μ) in 13 children with cystic fibrosis. Lung retention of radioactive label was monitored with a scintillation camera interfaced to a data-storage and retrieval system. The results were compared to those of nine

Mucociliary clearance after external dacryocystorhinostomy
Clinical Otolaryngology and Allied Sciences, 2004We investigated the nasal mucociliary clearance time in 17 patients who underwent a primary unilateral external dacryocystorhinostomy operation. Mucociliary clearance function in both nasal cavities was assessed with the saccharin test. The results were compared with each other using paired samples t-test.

Volatile anesthetics and mucociliary clearance.
Minerva anestesiologica, 2008The aim of this prospective, randomized, double blind study was to evaluate the possible modification of in vivo nasal mucociliary clearance by three different volatile agents: sevoflurane, isoflurane and desflurane, following intravenous induction and tracheal intubation.Following institutional approval and informed consent, 60 patients scheduled for ...

Cough and mucociliary clearance.
Bulletin europeen de physiopathologie respiratoire, 1987Cough is a host defence mechanism of the lungs. Theoretical considerations indicate that the efficacy of cough in clearing secretions is limited to the first few airway generations of the human lung. Studies utilizing radioaerosols as markers of mucus support the theoretical predictions and show that cough is effective in the proximal airways only in ...

[Mucociliary clearance in childhood].
Monatsschrift Kinderheilkunde : Organ der Deutschen Gesellschaft fur Kinderheilkunde, 1992A new, nearly monodisperse human serum albumin particle produced by air-pressure-nebulization was inhaled by children and lung-transplant patients. After inhalation of the particles obtained with an air-pressure nebulizer, the initial deposition pattern showed a marked tracheobronchial deposition which could be reproducibly obtained without a special ...

[Pathogenesis of mucociliary clearance].
Vestnik Rossiiskoi akademii meditsinskikh nauk, 2010The study of mucociliary clearance included 68 patients with bronchial asthma of different severity in whom viscoelastic properties of the sputum, motor activity of ciliary epithelium, glycosaminoglycans in peripheral blood and bronchial secretion at the B9-B10 level of the bronchial tree were determined.

Mucociliary clearance in smokers.
European journal of respiratory diseases, 1986The mucociliary clearance characteristics and the correlation between the extent of smoking and bronchial mucociliary dysfunction were studied in 71 smokers (15 without chronic bronchitis, 16 with simple and 40 with obstructive chronic bronchitis). Mucociliary clearance (MC) was measured with 99mTc-tagged human erythrocytes.
