Clinical Value of Metagenomic Next‐Generation Sequencing Versus Conventional Methods in Diagnosing Cryptococcal Infection After Kidney Transplantation

open access: yesOrgan Medicine, EarlyView.
This retrospective study evaluated metagenomic next‑generation sequencing (mNGS) against conventional methods (India ink, culture, antigen) for diagnosing cryptococcal infection in 16 kidney transplant recipients. mNGS showed a significantly higher positivity rate (93.8% vs 62.5%, p = 0.031) and shorter turnaround time (24 vs. 120 h, p < 0.001).
