Unraveling hagfish slime [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the Royal Society Interface 16, 20180710 (2019), 2018
Hagfish slime is a unique predator defense material containing a network of long fibrous threads each ~ 10 cm in length. Hagfish release the threads in a condensed coiled state known as thread cells, or skeins (~ 100 microns), which must unravel within a fraction of a second to thwart a predator attack.

Histological images segmentation of mucous glands [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
Mucous glands lesions analysis and assessing of malignant potential of colon polyps are very important tasks of surgical pathology. However, differential diagnosis of colon polyps often seems impossible by classical methods and it is necessary to involve computer methods capable of assessing minimal differences to extend the capabilities of the ...

Mucous membrane pemphigoid in a patient with hypertension treated with atenolol: a case report

open access: yesJournal of Medical Case Reports, 2012
Introduction Atenolol is commonly used by patients with hypertension, angina pectoris, or myocardial infarction. There have been reports of various adverse effects associated with the use of atenolol including bullous pemphigoid.

Histological and Histochemical Studies on the Esophagus, Stomach and Small Intestines of Vara-nus niloticus [PDF]

open access: yesJ. Vet. Anat. Vol 2 No1, (2009) 35 - 48, 2016
The aim of the current study was to investigate the morphological structure of one of the most common reptilian species in Egypt, Varanus niloticus or Nile monitor. Specimens for histological examination were collected from the esophageus, stomach and small intestine of the Nile monitor and processed for paraffin embedding.

Dielectric Properties of Polysulfone Carbon Nanotube Composite Membranes [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Polymeric membranes, including Polysulfone (PSf) membranes, are routinely used for water treatment. To enhance water permeation of above membranes, it is common to synthesize polymeric membranes with carbon nanotubes (CNTs) embedded in them. It is seen that water permeability of membranes having vertically aligned CNTs is higher, as compared to those ...

Spatial Dynamic Structures and Mobility in Computation [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2011
Membrane computing is a well-established and successful research field which belongs to the more general area of molecular computing. Membrane computing aims at defining parallel and non-deterministic computing models, called membrane systems or P Systems, which abstract from the functioning and structure of the cell.

Protein-induced membrane curvature changes membrane tension [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Adsorption of proteins onto membranes can alter the local membrane curvature. This phenomenon has been observed in biological processes such as endocytosis, tubulation and vesiculation. However, it is not clear how the local surface properties of the membrane, such as membrane tension, change in response to protein adsorption.
