Mucous Membrane Pemphigoid

open access: yes, 2021
This chapter is focused on mucous membrane pemphigoid (MMP), a group of acquired subepidermal auto-immune blistering diseases that predominantly affect the mucous membranes. MMP is caused by autoantibodies directed against structural proteins of the dermal-epidermal junction including BP180, BP230, type VII collagen, and laminin 332.

Buccal Mucosa as Substrate for Direct Immunofluorescence Should Be Included Early in the Diagnostic Work Up of Ocular Mucous Membrane Pemphigoid

open access: yesJEADV Clinical Practice, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background In ocular mucous membrane pemphigoid (MMP) direct immunofluorescence (DIF) represents the gold standard for definitive diagnosis. However, up to 50% of ocular MMP cases do not meet the immunopathological criteria. In addition, the risk of exacerbating conjunctival cicatrization makes ocular biopsy technically difficult to obtain ...

Rapid Disease Control in First-Line Therapy-Resistant Mucous Membrane Pemphigoid and Bullous Pemphigoid with Omalizumab as Add-On Therapy: A Case Series Of 13 Patients

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2022
The role of IgE autoantibodies has been demonstrated in the pathogenesis of bullous pemphigoid for many years. Recently, omalizumab (OMZ), a humanized monoclonal anti-IgE antibody that depletes total serum IgE, has been used off-label in a few case ...

Mucous Membrane Pemphigoid After Anti‐PD‐1 Therapy: Risk‐Stratified Management and Treatment Outcomes

open access: yesInternational Journal of Dermatology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Mucous membrane pemphigoid (MMP) following anti‐programmed cell death‐1 (PD‐1) therapy is rare but increasingly reported. Management of high‐ and low‐risk MMP in this setting and the potential oncologic trade‐offs remain poorly defined. We performed a narrative synthesis of all published cases of anti‐PD‐1‐associated MMP, following MEDLINE ...
