Antibiotic Sensitivity of Vibrio spp. and Shewanella algae Isolated From Brood and Egg of Mud Crab Hatchery

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, Volume 4, Issue 1, Page 55-66, February 2026.
Vibrio alginolyticus NBRC 15630, Vibrio parahaemolyticus ATCC 17802, Shewanella algae DW01, and Shewanella algae ATCC 51192 bacterial strains were found in the Mud crab brood and egg samples. All isolates were found to be sensitive to cefotaxime, chloramphenicol, gentamicin, and nitrofurantoin antibiotics.

Modified mangrove pens for polyculture system in mud crab (Scylla serrata) and milkfish (Chanos chanos) production

open access: yesDiversitas Journal
The mangrove pens were modified to produce mud crab (Scylla serrata) and milkfish (Chanos chanos) in a polyculture system. The modification of mangrove pens was done by adding excavations inside the pen. The water quality parameters (dissolved oxygen (DO)

Flooding and a complex predator community drive American oystercatcher nest and chick survival in Virginia

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, Volume 90, Issue 2, February 2026.
We investigated low American oystercatcher (Haematopus palliatus) productivity in the Virginia barrier islands, which historically supported high oystercatcher reproductive success. We found that chick survival was lower than nest survival, and that management may need to adapt to address evolving threats from coastal flooding and a multi‐guild ...

Sediment addition at the saltmarsh–mangrove ecotone shifts species dominance with implications for restoration

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 63, Issue 2, February 2026.
Our results reveal that emerging ecological communities may tolerate and benefit from restoration similar to better studied temperate systems. However, we show that community composition in these habitats may shift and develop along different trajectories in response to restoration interventions, with implications for managers targeting specific post ...

Seasonal variability of antioxidant biomarkers in mud crabs (Scylla serrata)

open access: yesEcotoxicology and Environmental Safety, 2013
Studies on oxidative stress (OS) in crustacea are widely used as ecotoxicological indices to assess the environment risk produced by the impact of several stressor and pollutants. In the present study, effects of seasonality on OS physiology markers such as antioxidant enzymes (superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione peroxidase and glutathione ...

Properties and Limitations of eDNA Substrates for Terrestrial Animal Monitoring

open access: yesMolecular Ecology Resources, Volume 26, Issue 2, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Environmental DNA (eDNA) constitutes a valuable tool for monitoring terrestrial animal diversity, but outcomes are affected by multiple factors. Among these factors, the choice of sampling substrate and method is especially important and must be aligned with research objectives.

Invertebrate Biodiversity Associated With a Unique Bryozoan Biogenic Reef Complex (Western Port, Victoria, Australia)

open access: yesAustral Ecology, Volume 51, Issue 2, February 2026.
ABSTRACT A unique biogenic bryozoan reef has been recently discovered in Western Port (a temperate embayment), Victoria, Australia. This reef is significant owing to its contiguous, regular, linear rows of densely stacked bryozoan colonies with large vertical relief. We aimed to (1) document the biodiversity of the macroinvertebrate epifauna associated
