Electric Discharge in Erupting Mud

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2022
Self‐ignition during the explosive eruption of mud volcanoes can create flames that in some cases reach heights that exceed hundreds of meters. To study the controls on electrical discharge in natural mud, we performed laboratory experiments using a ...

Recent, deep-sourced methane/mud discharge at the most active mud volcano in the western Mediterranean [PDF]

open access: yesMarine Geology, 2019
This work was supported by MINECO Spanish Projects [CTM2009-07715, CGL2011-1441, CGL2012-32659 and CGL2015-66830-R]; and the Andalusian Government Research Group [RNM-179 and RNM-215]. C. F. Large historical eruptions at subaerial mud volcanoes, Italy [PDF]

open access: yesNatural Hazards and Earth System Sciences, 2012
Active mud volcanoes in the northern Apennines, Italy, currently have gentle eruptions. There are, however, historical accounts of violent eruptions and outbursts.

Mud extrusion and ring-fault gas seepage – upward branching fluid discharge at a deep-sea mud volcano [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2018
AbstractSubmarine mud volcanoes release sediments and gas-rich fluids at the seafloor via deeply-rooted plumbing systems that remain poorly understood. Here the functioning of Venere mud volcano, on the Calabrian accretionary prism in ~1,600 m water depth is investigated, based on multi-parameter hydroacoustic and visual seafloor data obtained using ...

Effects of mud supply on large-scale estuary morphology and development over centuries to millennia [PDF]

open access: yesEarth Surface Dynamics, 2017
Alluvial river estuaries consist largely of sand but are typically flanked by mudflats and salt marshes. The analogy with meandering rivers that are kept narrower than braided rivers by cohesive floodplain formation raises the question of how large ...

Recent and episodic activity of decoupled mud/fluid discharge at Sartori mud volcano in the Calabrian Arc, Mediterranean Sea

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2023
Mud volcanoes (MVs) are surface structures typically created by episodic discharge of fluids and solids, often associated to onshore and offshore accretionary prisms on convergent plate boundaries.

Effects of Mud Supply and Hydrodynamic Conditions on the Sedimentary Distribution of Estuaries: Insights from Sediment Dynamic Numerical Simulation

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2023
Estuaries are important sediment facies in the fluvial-to-marine transition zone, are strongly controlled by dynamic interactions of tides, waves, and fluvial flows, and show various changes in depositional processes and sediment distribution.

Sustained abstinence after a methamphetamine-specific treatment program for pregnant and parenting women [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports
The treatment of methamphetamine use disorder (MUD) poses a significant challenge due to high rates of treatment discontinuation, substance use recurrence, and socioeconomic adversity. ‘Mummy, think of me’ (MAMADAM, an acronym from the German “Mama, denk

Two methods for simulating mud discharge after emergency disconnection of a drilling riser [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Natural Gas Science and Engineering, 2016
Abstract In marine floating drilling, emergency disconnection of a drilling riser is required in harsh environments or loss of dynamic positioning control. After disconnection, drilling mud in the riser discharges directly from the riser bottom, and seawater refills the vacancy emptied out after mud falling through refill valves.

EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF DISCHARGE DIFFUSION OF DRILLING MUD INTO THE SEA
