Thermodynamic Reversibility in Polarimetry
The action of linear media on incident polarized electromagnetic waves can produce two kinds of thermodynamic irreversible effects, namely, loss of intensity, in general anisotropic, and reduction of the degree of polarization. Even though both phenomena

In the study of polarized light, there are two basic notions: the Stokes vectors and the matrices which preserve them, called Mueller matrices. The set of Stokes vectors forms a cone: the Future Light Cone. In this work we will see that the Mueller matrices also form a cone in the vector space of real matrices of size 4X4, called the Mueller Cone.

Polarization gating based on Mueller matrices [PDF]
We present mathematical formulas generalizing polarization gating (PG) techniques. PG refers to a collection of imaging methods based on the combination of different controlled polarization channels. In particular, we show how using the measured Mueller matrix (MM) of a sample, a widespread number of PG configurations can be evaluated just from ...

Propagation of polarized light in turbid media: simulated animation sequences [PDF]
A time-resolved Monte Carlo technique was used to simulate the propagation of polarized light in turbid media. Calculated quantities include the reflection Mueller matrices, the transmission Mueller matrices, and the degree of polarization (DOP).

Exploring the Polarization of Light in Ferrofluids with Mueller Matrices
We studied the polarization of light in a thin film of ferrofluid subjected to a magnetic field using the Mueller matrix formalism. By observing the results of some experiments, we relate the observed light patterns with Stokes vectors that can be ...

The effect of relative humidity on the polarization Mueller matrix under the oil smoke environment
For the variation of the polarized Mueller matrix of oil smoke particles under different relative humidity levels, the polarized single scattering characteristics of oil smoke particles are studied by using the Mie scattering theory, and the multiple ...
