Diffusion bonding of ceramics: mullite, ZrO2-toughened mullite

Journal of Materials Science, 1991
Diffusion bonding of fine-grained mullite and ZrO2-toughened mullite was performed in the temperature range from 1500 to 1550 °C in air. Uniaxial pressure was applied at high temperature during the bonding process. The surface roughness to be bonded (Rmax) was about 3 μm. Bonding strength was measured by four-point bending tests and the strength of the

Crystallization studies in mullite and mullite–YSZ beads

Journal of the European Ceramic Society, 2010
Abstract Mullite and mullite/Y-ZrO2 (25 and 50 vol.%) beads were produced by thermal spraying in water the corresponding atomised compositions. The amount of amorphous phases in the as-sprayed beads was comparatively determined by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and differential thermal analysis (DTA) methods.

Electrospun mullite nanofibers derived from diphasic mullite sol

Journal of the American Ceramic Society, 2017
Abstract Fine‐grained mullite nanofibers derived from the diphasic mullite sol were successfully fabricated by electrospinning and subsequent pyrolysis at 1500°C. Polymethylsiloxane and aluminum tri‐sec‐butoxide were selected as the silicon and aluminum source to synthesize the diphasic sol.

Mechanical properties analysis and microstructure of ceramic materials of mullite ceramic material

The International Journal of Electrical Engineering & Education, 2018
Two unique multiphase volume elements were developed in this paper against the mechanical performance analysis problem of mullite ceramic material. They realized consideration of multiple materials in an element domain using the local strain correction ...

Fiber-coatings for fiber-reinforced mullite/mullite composites

Le Journal de Physique IV, 2001
Mullite-based fiber-reinforced composites are favorite candidates for the application in combustion chambers of gas turbines. The application requires damage tolerance, temperature and oxidation-resistance at high temperatures (>1200°C) over long terms. In order to realize crack deflection and fiber pull-out, an interphase coating of the mullite fibers

Mechanical behaviour of mullite composites reinforced with mullite fibres

Materials Science and Engineering: A, 1995
Abstract Mullite matrix composites uniaxially reinforced with uncoated and BN (0.3 or 1 μm thick) coated mullite fibres were consolidated to 82 to 98% of TD (theoretical density) at 1300 °C by using a colloidal processing route to make mullite matrix.

Fine milling of fused mullite and mullite-corundum

Refractories, 1981
Milling time during the fine grinding of fused mullite and mullite-corundum powders in a vibromill instead of a ballmill can be reduced by a factor of five. The addition of sulfite lye or ethyl silicate in amounts of 0.1% reduces by a factor of 12–18 the vibromilling time, but iron pickup is increased. Grinding in a jet mill causes the specific surface
